It is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month and has a history of over two thousand years. The origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival are rich and diverse. Here are some key points:

𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬

1) Commemoration of Qu Yuan: The most widely known origin story of the Dragon Boat Festival is the commemoration of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet from the Warring States period. He drowned himself in the Miluo River due to his grief over the fate of his country. The local people raced their boats to search for his body and threw rice dumplings into the river to prevent fish from eating his body.

2) Ancient Custom of Dispelling Evil: In the early days of the Dragon Boat Festival, it was considered an inauspicious day, and people would hold various rituals to ward off plagues and evil spirits.

𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬

1) Eating Zongzi: Zongzi, or rice dumplings, are the most representative food of the Dragon Boat Festival. These are made by wrapping glutinous rice and various fillings in bamboo leaves and steaming them. They come in many varieties, including sweet, salty, date-filled, and bean paste-filled.

2) Dragon Boat Racing: Dragon boat racing is a significant and exciting activity during the festival. This event not only commemorates Qu Yuan but also symbolizes unity and strength.

3) Hanging Mugwort and Calamus: During the festival, people hang mugwort and calamus on their doorways, believing that these plants can dispel evil and bring peace to the household.

4) Wearing Perfumed Sachets: People wear small sachets made of five-colored silk threads filled with fragrant herbs. These sachets serve both as decoration and as a means to ward off insects and evil spirits.

5) Drinking Realgar Wine: In ancient times, it was believed that drinking realgar wine could drive away evil spirits and diseases, making it a traditional custom during the Dragon Boat Festival.

The Dragon Boat Festival is not just a traditional holiday but also carries rich cultural significance. It is an important part of China's intangible cultural heritage, reflecting the Chinese people's love and inheritance of their homeland and traditional culture.

With the development of the times, the celebration methods of the Dragon Boat Festival have also evolved. While preserving traditional customs, various regions have introduced diverse activities, such as folk performances and tourism festivals, bringing new vitality to this ancient festival.

The Dragon Boat Festival is not only celebrated in China but also in many other countries and regions with Chinese communities, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea. It has become an internationally influential cultural festival.

Graceful strokes of the brush to bring to life the profound idiom "井底之蛙" (jǐng dǐ zhī wā) - a phrase that captures the essence of broadening one's horizons.

🌊 Translated as "frog at the bottom of a well," this idiom reminds us to break free from narrow perspectives and embrace the vastness of the world. Each stroke on paper carries the weight of centuries of tradition, and it's an honor to bring this wisdom to life through the art of calligraphy.
