Plasmonics Development of artificial photosynthesis and solar cells with plasmonic materials

The need for energy and chemicals from an increasing population, coupled with dwindling fossil fuels reserves and the threat of climate change accentuates the urgency to find greener and sustainable processes that are capable of meeting the anticipated demands. Our research is focused on the development and understanding of nano-scaled systems capable of producing fuel and high value chemicals usi

ng sunlight as the energy source (so-called Artificial Photosynthesis). Our systems are prepared in an unmanned microfluidic reactor, and tested in wastewater-upcycling and biomass-upgrading processes. We use advanced spectroscopy to gain fundamental understanding of the underlying processes.

After 3 years of hard work I’m happy to share our latest paper:

Ultrafast hot-hole injection modifies hot-electron dynamics in Au/p-GaN heterostructures

Photo-excited gold nanoparticles are shown to provide ultrafast and efficient hot-hole injection to the valence band of p-type GaN, substantially altering hot-electron dynamics in the nanoparticles and forming a basis to design hot-hole-based optoelectronics.
