I wish all of you a blessed new year!
Wow, we have just published our one hundred episode of Everyman’s Theology!!!
The Lord has given me Isaiah 60:1-5 as a word for 2019 and I want to make a few comments of what I see in it.
Darkness covers the earth - it’s a unstable and turbulent period on earth right now. Historically such times usually leads to different changes; political, in economics, demographic etc.
In all this the Lord wants to come upon his people with his glory. But it will only happen if we really want to be that light of the world and are willing to be separated and holy unto the Lord. The more we conform to the world and hook arms with it, the more we also gonna share it’s darkness.
The “world” simply stands for the world-system that has been built by fallen man instead of the Kingdom of God. Jesus called Satan “the Prince of this world”. And even if all legal authority is taken from him, John still wrote after the Cross that “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one”.
So we more seriously need to look into scriptures like “If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15). I suggest you use the search-engine in your Bible app and study references about the “world”!
Of course the solution is not to isolate ourselves. At times believers have tried that strategy, but we cannot win the world that way as well as we cannot “win the world with the world”.
Jesus is our example; he is not of the world but he came into our world in order to save us.
This is what he said: “They (disciples) are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world” (Joh 17:16-18).
So in the coming year, let’s go for this and work with how we can be more present and active in the world, and at the same time less of the world!
