☕️ We have found the secret to joy in life - inspiration!

💪 Our last Networking Breakfast for the semester offered not only inspiration, but also a strong dose of energy.

☀️ Vera Wolf, UU-alumna and not-your-typical entrepreneur, talked about the challenges of setting up her art studio and mindfulness classes. Part of her journey has also been the many insights about herself, from gaining trust in her own stregth to sharing kindness and energy with her participants.

After moving from the Netherlands to Sweden, Vera decided to build a company from scratch, without any prior experience in entrepreneurship. At this breakfast, she will share her personal journey, the challenges she faced, and the lessons she learned along the way. A founder story for anyone curious about entrepreneurship, innovation, or taking the first step after (or during!) your studies.

Today we joined UIC’s Spring Party, a great opportunity to connect, catch up and see what’s currently taking shape in Uppsala’s innovation ecosystem.

There were awards, conversations and plenty of positive energy, with startups recognised for sustainability, team development, tech and impact, plus a Public Choice Award voted for by the audience.

Especially nice to meet students and researchers from we’ve supported, now moving forward through UIC’s programmes. We caught up with teams from Vips, Nornir Labs, Aidmix and Afterimagery, among others.

👏 Congratulations to Afterimagery, led by Prof. Emily Holmes, for taking home the Public Choice Award. And a shout‑out to Pixlbio, a UU spin‑out selected as UIC Selected this year.

Uppsala may be modest in size, but there’s a lot being built here, steadily and with purpose 💙💛

We recently visited the Department of Chemistry at Ångström lab to celebrate LiFILLERS.

Led by Daniel Brandell and Jonas Mindemark, LiFILLERS is developing new materials for solid‑state batteries with higher energy density and improved safety – using smart combinations of polymers and simple mineral components.

The project is one of this year’s Attractive Innovation Projects at Uppsala University, following an early investment from UU Invest, and is also supported by Proof of Concept funding from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.

Meet Fred Isaksson, UU alum and our new business advisor!

Fred is an engineer by training and an entrepreneur by experience. He has built startups, worked with venture builders and been part of a fast‑growing, climate‑focused industrial company. Now he joins us to support students and researchers who want to explore how ideas and research insights can grow into new solutions and new companies.

What’s Fred’s message to students and researchers at Uppsala University?

“Just come talk to us. You don’t need to have everything figured out. We’re here to help you explore what could be possible with your idea.”

When he’s not working, Fred enjoys staying active, travelling and spending time with his dog Bella – sometimes all at once, like cycling through Amsterdam with her in a backpack last summer 🚲🐶

Congratulations to Uppsala universitet spin-outs ✨Scaleout for winning the Innovation of the Year award and ✨Extem Pharma for being named Future Outlook of the Year at the Uppsala Entrepreneurial Gala 2026.

Scaleout offers technology that enables advanced AI to be used in a safe, controllable and reliable way in critical environments.

Extem Pharma is developing a platform for individualised, on‑demand medicines based on solid dosage forms and 3D printing, enabling rapid, small‑scale production in the required dose and format.

We also congratulate the finalists Pixlbio and AirForestry in Innovation of the Year, and Abstract, finalist in Future Outlook of the Year.

Together, all these companies highlight the strength, breadth and relevance of research‑based innovation emerging from our university and Uppsala’s innovation ecosystem.

Balancing studies, student life and part-time work is a familiar challenge for many students. For Hugo, Viktor and Lucky, this challenge became the starting point for Vips, a platform they created to help students find short, flexible shifts that fit around their schedules while giving companies quick access to extra support.

Since its launch in 2025, Vips has continued to grow as more students join the app and new sectors discover the benefits of on-demand staffing. It’s a strong example of how a student-driven idea, rooted in real needs, can develop into something that makes a meaningful difference.
