Is spring late this year?

We tried to answer this question by comparing soil temperatures at different depths from the last decade at the weather station at Ultuna in Uppsala. And even though it is definitely not historically cold, it is one of the colder years.
Our answer? A hesitant "yes" ❄️

Under sensommaren kommer det att finnas en massa spännande växter att titta på, allt från Dala lantvete till cikoria. Totalt 44 arter!

We’ve had some rain, we’ve had some sunshine, we’ve had heading of rye. More rain is on the way along with heading of timothy and fescue this weekend.
There is a lot going on in the field right now! 🌿🌿

Where did the plants go??

This winter has been tough on our autumn sown crops, and the fields are patchy with bare soil where winter wheat and winter oilseed r**e used to be.

Slowly slowly soil temperatures are rising... The ground is still frozen but soil temperatures have reached 0 C.

Air temperatures have fluctuated 10-15 degrees between day and night during the last month. During week 12 they reached +15 C, and the following week they regularly dropped to -10 C. This has been stressful for our crops.

We are hoping for warm and stable weather the coming weeks!
