Space Rendezvous: Suborbital🚀

The 2026 spring edition of Space Rendezvous has the theme suborbital and will take place on the 23 March 13:00-17:10 in M2. Also on Zoom (link in bio).

Space Rendezvous is a recurring event held twice a year by KTH Space Center, bringing together students, researchers, and professionals with a shared interest in space. Hosted at KTH in Stockholm, it provides an open and collaborative forum to explore the latest developments in space research, technology, and exploration.

Each edition features invited speakers, student projects, and networking opportunities, all in the field of space. Designed to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen connections within the Swedish and international space community Space Rendezvous is open for everyone.

How to Become an Analogue Astronaut and Get Space Exploration Experience

Meet Madeleine Monperrus, a student in the Vehicle Engineering program at KTH and join this lunch lecture to know more about Asclepios, an international student led organisation simulating a lunar mission every summer. As a selected analog astronaut for Asclepios VI, Madeleine Monperrus will talk about her own experience in the organisation, but most importantly what it takes for you to participate in the only student-led mission in the world.

The MIST team will hold a lunch seminar on how KTH students are developing a real satellite mission. Formulated in 2014 and worked on since, the project is now moving into its final phase ahead of a planned launch in 2027 as part of KTH’s 200-year anniversary. Come along to learn more and find out how you can get involved as a student before it launches. No registration is required!

Each year KTH Space Center has a competition for the best final degree project and this year is no exception!🚀✨

Have you completed a final degree project at KTH during the previous academic year in an area connected to space and KTH Space Center’s fields of interest? Then it’s time to nominate your own work for our annual thesis prizes!

🏆 Prize amounts
🔹 Basic level: 10,000 SEK
🔹 Advanced level: 15,000 SEK
(If you wrote your project as a team, the prize is shared equally.)

The winner is also invited to present their work at Space Rendezvous this spring.

✅ Projects are assessed on engineering skills & scientific level—and also how clearly and professionally the work is presented.

Have you completed your MSc thesis after April 25th 2025. or are you in the final stages of completing your thesis related to aerospace fields?

Are you interested in participating in a student conference with the opportunity of networking with your peers from the top Aerospace Programs in Europe?

Then submit a 1-page abstract to Raffaello Mariani ([email protected]) and Mykola Ivchenko ([email protected]) by January 26th (on Monday!) for a chance to be selected to attend the conference. The three best topics will be selected and have the opportunity to attend the conference.

KTH won the competition in 2023 with our student attending the AIAA SciTech Conference in 2024 in Orlando, Florida, USA, and finished top-10 in 2025, with our student attending the CEAS conference in Turin, with the opportunity of publishing his paper.

Next Friday, on the 14th of November, you are warmly invited to Space Rendezvous Autumn 2025, hosted by KTH Space Center. The event will take place from 13:00 to 17:00 in lecture hall F2 at KTH Main Campus, and will also be available to attend online via Zoom.

Space Rendezvous is organised by KTH Space Center twice a year, and the theme for the 2025 autumn edition is Space and Defence. Throughout the afternoon, we will explore the vital connections between space technology, security, and research. The programme features speakers and panelists from SNSA (Swedish National Space Agency), Saab, FHS (Swedish Defence University), FOI (Swedish Defence Research Agency), LTU (Luleå University of Technology), and more. The invited speakers represent the leading institutions and companies shaping Sweden’s space and defence landscape.

Space Rendezvous brings together students, researchers, industry professionals, and enthusiasts to share insights, exchange ideas, and discuss the future of space and defence collaboration. 🚀 Job Opportunity: Help Design a Space Detector! 🛰️

A research student assistant is sought to work on the mechanical design of an X-ray detector which will be mounted in a CubeSat (earth-orbiting mini-satellite). The detector will be used for astrophysics and study the brightest explosions in the universe – gamma-ray bursts. The aim is to design and build a prototype mechanical structure and evaluate the performance in the lab. The position is placed within the particle physics, astrophysics and medical imaging Division at the Department of Physics, which is located at AlbaNova University Centre.

📋Requirements:
-You should be admitted to first or second-level cycle education at a Swedish university
-Experience with mechanical design using CAD software.

The position is paid and at 30 % and is part of the ESA mission COMCUBE-S which is a CubeSat swarm for the study of gamma-ray bursts currently. It is currently in ESA phase A.
