“Is it tomorrow yet? How the pandemic changes Europe” - NGO Academy Keynote with Ivan Krastev
What are the consequences of the pandemic that will set the course of the world in the coming years? Loss of vision is characteristic of every pandemic: we do not see the disease until it arrives, and when it does, we do not understand what is happening either. The paradoxes that COVID-19 has brought to light regarding globalization: international cooperation, authoritarianism, social cohesion and the European project.
The event will take place on March 2nd, 2021 from 2 pm until 3.30 pm (CET). You can register here free of charge.
Best regards, Martin Mehrwald, The NGO Academy

Erik Sjöstrand appointed Managing Director at IDEELL ARENA!
We are both happy and proud to congratulate Dr. Erik Sjöstrand to his new position as Managing Director (verksamhetschef) at IDEELL ARENA, effective as of January 1st, 2021.
Erik has for a long time been a core member of the faculty at our research center at SSE. After successfully defending his PhD dissertation at SSE in 2018, Erik has been working with us as researcher in a number of studies, for example in a study of the governance of welfare in the Church of Sweden and in another on the transnational governance of the university field.
We also congratulate IDEELL ARENA for an exellent choice! We are of course sad to see Erik leave us, but we look forward to continued close cooperation in our joint strive to help IDEELL ARENA provide civil society with the most recent and relevant research available.

"The special way to organize and facilitate organizational learning as well as the level of slack easily available seem to set the Church apart from both public-sector bodies and commercial for-profit entities. But in many respects, the Church shares characteristics with other actors in civil society which indicate a unique role for these organizations in the resilience of society during unexpected jolts and sudden emergencies."
The Church of Sweden and the quest to bounce back better
Just as companies need to adapt to the new situation, so do civil society organizations.

Virtual "Home Office" workshop on University Governance
Yesterday we finally had our spring workshop in the UniGov project on Governance of the Transnational University Field funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.
Caught by the effects of the coronavirus an earlier planned (non-virtual) workshop was postponed – but we were now still able to conduct it, albeit somewhat later and virtually.
This post is also a great "thank you!" to all the workshop participants that made this both possible and a highly worthwhile workshop. Great discussions on our papers!
Looking forward to next time – hopefully sometimes soon also irl and outside of "home office" space. /Best, Filip Wijkström, SCCSS Stockholm School of Economics

Sweden through the crisis
Research-based perspectives on COVID-19.
15/06/2020
The very first articles are released today from the brand new SSE COVID-19 Report. The faculty at Stockholm School of Economics are sharing their work and views on the topic: Sweden through the crisis, and there will be new article released daily for the coming 2-3 weeks.
Next week we will release the chapter from our Center, on the work by Svenska kyrkan and its many parishes work during the corona crisis. Stay tuned!
Svenska kyrkan
Why did Sweden choose a different path than most countries during the corona crisis? How is the crisis affecting society – from retail and national economy to violence against women? And how can we bridge divides when the pressure is mounting?
A comprehensive new report from a group of researchers affiliated with the Stockholm School of Economics attempts to answer these questions – and many more. Today we publish the first articles from the report Sweden through the crisis, and we'll continue throughout the summer. Stay tuned!
