The SI Scholarship: More Than Funding—A Platform for Global Leadership

The Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals, commonly known as the SI Scholarship, is one of Sweden’s most prestigious and competitive scholarship programmes. It is designed for experienced and ambitious professionals who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to sustainable development.
The scholarship is not awarded solely on the basis of excellent academic results. SI looks for applicants who can clearly connect their professional experience, leadership record, chosen master’s programme and future ambitions to positive social, economic or environmental change.
What should aspiring applicants begin doing now?
Do not wait for the application portal to open.
Begin by identifying eligible master’s programmes that align with your professional experience and long-term goals. Document your employment and leadership responsibilities carefully. Reflect on the measurable contribution you have made through your work or community engagement. Most importantly, develop a credible explanation of how studying in Sweden will strengthen your ability to address a real development challenge.
The SI Scholarship is not awarded to applicants simply because they wish to study abroad. It is awarded to professionals who can demonstrate where they have come from, what they have already contributed, why a particular programme is necessary and how they intend to use the opportunity responsibly.

বিদেশে উচ্চশিক্ষা: শুধু ‘কোন দেশ?’ নয়, প্রশ্ন করুন ‘কোন ক্যারিয়ার?’
ধরুন আজ আপনি বিদেশে পড়তে যাওয়ার পরিকল্পনা করছেন। প্রশ্ন হলো—আপনি কি একটি দেশের জন্য প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছেন, নাকি আগামী ১০–২০ বছরের একটি ক্যারিয়ারের জন্য?
মাত্র ১০–১৫ বছর আগে Health Policy, Digital Health, Healthcare Data Analytics, Population Health-এর মতো ক্ষেত্রগুলো আজকের মতো আলোচিত ছিল না। অথচ বর্তমানে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন সরকার, স্বাস্থ্যব্যবস্থা, গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান এবং আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থা এসব খাতে বিনিয়োগ করছে।
তাই বিদেশে উচ্চশিক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রশ্নটি সম্ভবত "কোন দেশ সবচেয়ে ভালো?" নয়।
বরং প্রশ্নটি হওয়া উচিত— আগামী ১০ বছরে আমার বিষয়ের চাহিদা কোথায় সবচেয়ে বেশি থাকবে?
অনেক শিক্ষার্থী প্রথমে দেশ নির্বাচন করে, তারপর বিষয় নির্বাচন করে। কিন্তু অনেক আগে নিজের আগ্রহ, দক্ষতা এবং ভবিষ্যতের চাকরির বাজার বিশ্লেষণ করে, তারপর সেই লক্ষ্য অনুযায়ী দেশ নির্বাচন করে।
যদি আপনার আগ্রহ Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy, Biostatistics, Health Informatics-এ হয়, তাহলে শুধু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের Ranking দেখলে হবে না। দেখতে হবে কোথায় সুযোগ বেশি, কোথায় দক্ষ জনবলের চাহিদা বাড়ছে, কোথায় স্কলারশিপের সুযোগ আছে এবং কোথায় পড়াশোনার পর ক্যারিয়ার গড়ার বাস্তব সুযোগ রয়েছে।
উদাহরণস্বরূপ, যুক্তরাষ্ট্র এখনও বিশ্বের অন্যতম শক্তিশালী গবেষণা কেন্দ্র। অনেক PhD শিক্ষার্থী বছরে ৩০,০০০–৫০,০০০ ডলার বা তারও বেশি Funding পায়। তবে Self-funded Master's করতে গেলে বছরে ৩০,০০০–৬০,০০০ ডলার পর্যন্ত খরচ হতে পারে।
জার্মানি তুলনামূলক কম খরচে উচ্চমানের শিক্ষা দেয়, তবে দীর্ঘমেয়াদে চাকরির বাজারে ভালো করতে চাইলে জার্মান ভাষা জানা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সুবিধা হতে পারে।
কানাডা এখনও আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় এবং শক্তিশালী গন্তব্য। শিক্ষা, কাজের অভিজ্ঞতা এবং অভিবাসনের মধ্যে বাস্তবসম্মত সংযোগ থাকার কারণে বহু শিক্ষার্থী এখানকে তাদের ভবিষ্যৎ গড়ার দেশ হিসেবে বেছে নেয়। তবে একটি বিষয় খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ—কানাডা সম্পর্কে সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার সময় সর্বশেষ তথ্যের উপর নির্ভর করতে হবে। সাম্প্রতিক বছরগুলোতে শিক্ষার্থী ভিসা, অভিবাসন এবং Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) নীতিতে বেশ কিছু পরিবর্তন এসেছে। তাই পাঁচ বছর আগের অভিজ্ঞতা বা তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে নয়, বরং বর্তমান নীতিমালা ও বাস্তবতা বিবেচনা করেই পরিকল্পনা করা উচিত।
অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় চাকরির বাজার ও Part-time Work-এর সুযোগ ভালো হলেও Sydney ও Melbourne-এর মতো শহরে জীবনযাত্রার ব্যয় অনেক বেশি।
অন্যদিকে জাপান - MEXT Scholarship-এর মতো কিছু স্কলারশিপে টিউশন ফি, মাসিক ভাতা এবং বিমান ভাড়াও অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকে।
আর যুক্তরাজ্যের একটি বড় সুবিধা হলো অধিকাংশ Master's Program মাত্র এক বছরে শেষ করা যায়, যদিও টিউশন ফি ও জীবনযাত্রার ব্যয় তুলনামূলকভাবে বেশি।
সবশেষে একটি বিষয় মনে রাখা জরুরি—
বিদেশে পড়তে যাওয়া শুধু একটি ডিগ্রি অর্জনের সিদ্ধান্ত নয়। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে এটি আপনার পরবর্তী ১০–২০ বছরের ক্যারিয়ার, গবেষণা, আয় এবং জীবনযাত্রার গতিপথ নির্ধারণ করে।
তাই শুধু জিজ্ঞেস করবেন না— “কোন দেশ সবচেয়ে ভালো?"বরং জিজ্ঞেস করুন—“আমার বিষয়, আমার বাজেট, আমার দক্ষতা এবং ভবিষ্যতের স্বাস্থ্যখাতের চাহিদার সঙ্গে কোন দেশটি সবচেয়ে বেশি সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ?"
কারণ সবার জন্য সেরা দেশ বলে কিছু নেই।
কিন্তু যে দেশটি আপনার দক্ষতা, ক্যারিয়ার লক্ষ্য এবং ভবিষ্যৎ সম্ভাবনার সঙ্গে সবচেয়ে ভালোভাবে মিলে যায়, সেটিই হতে পারে আপনার সাফল্যের সেরা গন্তব্য।
