It’s been a f*cking ride. Getting to this place, to where I am right now.
And now, as I sit at my desk in my own apartment in Stockholm—the one I fought so hard to finally get—working with my own company, it suddenly hits me. Why I ended up here.
A smile forms on my lips as I hear the birds singing outside. The typical spring birds, starting their songs a little earlier than usual this year. And right outside my balcony, I hear a new one—a smooth, long whistle I haven’t heard before. I get up, step outside, and look around. I see the trees, hear the birds, and feel the sun kissing my face. Finally.
And that’s when I realize why I chose this place to be my home.
Surrounded by green, by wildlife, by nature. Waking up to birdsong, occasionally spotting deer resting on the ground beneath my balcony. That’s what I did as a child. This is where I feel safe.
As a kid, I spent my days playing in the forest. I loved waking up in the summer with the window open, listening to the birds in the morning. I’d sneak off to hang out with the horses—and my grandmother did not like that at all
For so long, I fought this part of me, convincing myself that I needed to live in the inner city, to be in the pulse of it all. But no. Now, I get to choose. I can step into the city’s high energy when I want to, and then come home to slow mornings, calm evenings, and the quiet I need.
Now, I’m just waiting to become friends with the squirrel living in the pine outside my balcony. And I just realized I sound like Snow White. But so be it. (Disclaimer: except I don’t need a Prince Charming to save me.)
It’s been a ride. And it hasn’t stopped—it’s just begun. But now, I’m on my own terms. And my mind is calmer than ever. Not letting anyone decide my choices.
And that. That is a f*cking win for me.☀️
So what’s the point of this?
Well. Sometimes, we have to go back and listen to that little child inside us. And pay attention to how we actually feel about the things we think we want. 🌸
