Att länka armar med varandra och stämma upp i sången Auld Lang Syne när klockorna har ringt in det nya året är tradition över den engelsktalande världen på nyårsafton. Den skotske nationalskalden Robert Burns skrev texten om gammal vänskap till en folkmelodi på 1700-talet 🔔

Just nyår är en alldeles speciell högtid i Skottland. Hogmanay firas storslaget med gatufest, fyrverkerier och konserter. Årets första gäst - the first foot - sägs också bringa god tur. Helst ska gästen ha med sig några gåvor som ett mynt, salt, bröd och whisky - symboler för vad året hoppas föra med sig 🪙🧂🫓🥃

Linking arms to sing Auld Land Syne when the bells have chimed on New Year’s Eve is a tradition across the English-speaking world. Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns, wrote the lyrics about steadfast friendship, to an old folk tune 🔔

New Year celebrations or Hogmanay hold a special place in Scottish culture, with street parties, fireworks and concerts. The first guest of the year - the first foot - is also said to bring good luck. Preferably, they should come bearing gifts representing what the new year should bring - a coin, bread, salt and whisky, among other things 🪙🧂🫓🥃
