In Italy, a ski trip is commonly referred to as "Settimana Bianca" (literal translation: "White Week"). This term dates back to 1911 when the Italian Touring Club organized the first ski competitions on the slopes of the Valle Spluga in Italy. After the event turned out to be a big hit with tourists, the cover of one of Italy’s most important newspapers dubbed it “La settimana bianca." Cervinia (near Switzerland) has been one of the Italian hot spots for skiing and snowboarding. I have great memories of skiing there with my Italian friends over 25 years ago!
