❓One common question we often receive is whether it's possible to work while studying in Sweden.
❗️Before delving into this topic, we would like to emphasize that your studies should be your primary focus and top priority.
✅Unlike some other countries, international students with a residence permit for studying in Sweden are allowed to work alongside their studies. The good news is that no additional work permit is required.
⏰However, it's important to note that, although there is no official limit to the number of hours you can work, your studies will demand approximately 40 hours per week, including attending lectures, reading, studying, and working on assignments.
🗂️Part-Time Job
Securing a part-time job can be challenging, especially if you don't speak Swedish, but it's not impossible. To increase your chances, consider proactively submitting your CV and expressing your interest in companies, even if they aren't advertising positions. Utilizing notice boards and exploring online freelance opportunities, such as commission-based work, consulting, or web design, can also be viable options to support yourself financially.
🏫University-Related Opportunities
Many universities offer exciting student assignments, such as part-time roles in the university library, positions as student representatives or digital ambassadors, or opportunities in science parks. Keep an eye on your university's website for announcements about these vacancies.
📋Working After Completing Your Studies
Upon completing your studies in Sweden with a residence permit for higher education, you have the option to obtain a residence permit to seek employment or start a business in the country.
You can also apply for a residence permit to seek employment in Sweden if you have had a residence permit for studies in another EU country and have lived in Sweden during the period of your residence permit and conducted some of your studies here.
The permit is valid for 12 months, and it cannot be extended. If you wish to stay in Sweden beyond this period, it's crucial to secure employment within the first 12 months to be eligible to apply for a work permit.

💸 Studying in Sweden on a student budget? We've got the breakdown to help you navigate those Swedish Kronor!
🤝In the world of Swedish studies, balancing your books (both academic and financial) is an art. Here's a simple breakdown to guide aspiring students:
💰 Living Costs: Approximately SEK 9,450/month. Yep, Sweden's on the pricey side. Housing claims the lion's share, but your monthly spend? That's a personal journey – lifestyle, habits, and location play key roles
🍲 Groceries/Food: The budget spectrum is wide! A thrifty friend rocks 1000 SEK/month, mastering meatless cooking. On the other end, the pizza lover spends 2000 SEK/month. Tips? Cook, freeze, dine with friends, and save. And yes, Tupperware is a lifestyle choice here!
📚 Books: University materials often live online, but if you prefer physical books, go second-hand or tap into older students' wisdom. For leisure reading, embrace the e-reader – luggage-friendly!
🎓 Student Union Fee: Joining? Fees range from SEK 50–350, unlocking student activities and discounts. Varied by university, so check with your local union
🚎 Transportation: Friends may skip it, biking or walking in small towns. In cities, try a monthly ticket initially – test the waters. First months are golden for new student deals!
📱 Mobile and Gym: Mobile plans are student-friendly; explore options. Gyms? Affordable, but nature is Sweden's free gym. Hiking, running, and walking are norms. Some student housing even comes with gyms and saunas!
🎉 Leisure: Your budget, your control. Suggest cost-splitting activities with friends, explore "afterwork" deals, and mix it up with picnics and dinners. Balance is key in the Swedish lifestyle
🤑 Extras and Last Advice: Initial costs can be steep, but don't panic – settle in, and balance will follow. Buy hygiene products in bulk initially. Shop for clothes back home or hit second-hand stores for budget-friendly finds
💸Monthly Student Budget Breakdown:
- Food: SEK 2,500
- Accommodation: SEK 4,500
- Local travel: SEK 550
- Phone/internet: SEK 400
- Miscellaneous: SEK 1,500
🟰Total: SEK 9,450

🎓 How is the Higher Education system structured in Sweden?
🏆Sweden has long been renowned for its high academic standards and research excellence. Despite its relatively small population, the country has some of the best universities in the world
🏅The Swedish Higher Education system is ranked 2nd in the world and 1st in relation to GDP. Some Swedish universities are regularly ranked by Times Higher Education and Academic Ranking of World Universities
🏛Today, Sweden has nearly 40 universities, both public and private. There are also independent higher education institutions such as Stockholm School of Economics, Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg and Jönköping University
📚Swedish universities offer more than 1,000 bachelor's and master's degree programmes taught entirely in English and open to international students
🇬🇧 While learning Swedish can be certainly useful for you, you can do without it as almost everyone in Sweden has an impressively good level of business English. In fact, Swedes are famous for being the best non-native speakers of English in the world
⏰ The duration of bachelor's programmes in Sweden is usually 3 years (180 ECTS), while Master’s programmes are taught as either 1-year programme (60 ECTS) or 2-year programmes (120 ECTS)
♻️ A large number of programmes includes a possibility of exchange period abroad and/or internships. Bachelor’s and Master’s theses are frequently written in collaboration with companies and organisations where students get to do their internship
