A new study by Alexander Lebedev entitled "Large-scale societal dynamics are reflected in human mood and brain" tests the hypothesis of "social mood" initially proposed by Robert Prechter, Jr. and further developed by John Casti. Employing state-of-the-art methods of big data analytics, the authors show that citizens' mood, wellbeing and related behavioural patterns (such as alcohol intake), as well as the anatomical characteristics of their brains exhibit close relationship with socioeconomic characteristics of a country, as indexed by capital market evolution, unemployment rates and housing prices.

Our group is looking for participants in an ongoing brain imaging study “Personality and its influence on learning and beliefs”.
The study takes place in Stockholm and investigates how different personality traits and cognitive factors influence learning and belief formation, as well as neural mechanisms underlying these processes. It entails a brain MRI session with several experimental tasks (1.5 hours max). Of note, in one of the experiments you will be receiving mild electric stimulation (calibrated to be aversive, but not painful).
Specifically, we are looking for people residing in Sweden meeting the following criteria:
- Age between 18 and 35 years
- Absence of any neurological, psychiatric disorders or serious medical conditions
- No history of serious head traumas, brain damage
- No mental body implants (dental implants, brackets are allowed) or implanted electronic devices (e.g. cardiostimulator)

In our newly published Scientific Reports study by Alexander Lebedev and Kasim Acar, we found no evidence for detrimental effects of psychedelics on schizotypy/psychosis-like symptoms, instead showing that those with history of psychedelic use score lower on cognitive distortion typical for schizophrenia-spectrum disorders and exhibit higher sensitivity to instructed knowledge in reversal fear learning task modelled computationally.
Unlike for psychedelics, an expected (detrimental) association was found for the use of stimulants
