SARA provides the highest level of training in realistic drawing and painting using traditional techniques and methods of the Renaissance, 18th and 19th century European and Russian academies as well as contemporary methods. The education is a three-year program with a curriculum designed as a systematic progression that breaks down the complex and intimidating challenge of learning to draw and pa

int realistically from life into practical stages. Each stage requires that the student acquire and demonstrate specific skills before advancing to the next more challenging stage. Students progress in a logical, step-by-step fashion leading ultimately to free and confident painting in oil.

Fall semester has started at Sara!

Here we have the new students embracing the most challenging part of the curriculum - learning how to see correct proportions and accurate shapes. We start with a Bargue drawing, making sure the methodology is well comprehended and after (the last images) students will draw from life.

We at Sara use comparative measurements. Meaning we use our eyes to see distances, alligments and proportions. The only tools we have is the plumb line and the a measuring stick.

So far, from just their first assignment, students are starting to understand the importance of critical thinking and patience.

A huge thank you to everyone that made it to Simrishamn to celebrate 20-years of SARA with us, it was truly amazing to see you again!
A weekend packed with fun - figure drawing, landscape painting, alumni presentations, drawing/painting relay games, rounders, volleyboll, Sannas cake and all the rest - wow, we are so grateful to all our alumni, previous and current students - we could not have done this without you all! All love to you and thank you!!!

20 years of Swedish Academy of Realist Art 🎨

This summer, SARAs 20th celebration has brought together our alumni, together with their families, where memories were shared and new ones were created...and future ones will come to be.

These are images from the event in combination with past events because for us it's all together... Important.

We thank the founders of Sara - Sanna Tomac and Hans-Peter Szameit, who fought and made sure that this education flourishes and keeps teaching future generation of artists.

In today's technological world, human interaction and communication will become stronger than ever. Either it be visual, music, events... It is important that we teach and learn how to create and share.

Onward to the next chapter! Fall semester is coming up fast! Excited to meet the new generation of artists.

Mastery study by instructor Theodora Daniela Capăt after Gyula Benczúr, Hungarian painter.

This semester we are starting a pilot online course called "Art Fundamentals"

The student will be taught how to draw proportionate and accurate shapes in a compositionally pleasing manner. This is the cornerstone of any successful drawing and painting. Students will first copy a Bargue lithography in graphite. Charles Bargue was a French painter and lithographer, and his work is studied around the world to help students learn the basics of accurate and proportional drawing, whilst still maintaining a sense of sensitivity. We´ll then create and draw a simple still life, building on the skills from the previous exercise with a more complex subject. Drawing from life rather than photographic reference will encourage you to truly see and understand your subject and build a strong drawing method.

DATES: September 26, October 3, October 10, October 17, October 24, October 31, November 7, November 14, and November 21. Each Saturday 9:00 -12:00
