Sankt Ignatios theological academy is a unique place for education and learning. At Sankt Ignatios you have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the Orthodox/Eastern Christian tradition in a way that creates knowledge and interest and promotes participation with the Church - and therefore also in the world we share with others. Sankt Ignatios houses a folk high school as well as university

studies and research. You can study basic subjects as well as theology at an introductory level all the way up to post-graduate studies and research. Sankt Ignatios also houses four seminaries that function as the different Churches own rooms in the common building. The seminaries are responsible for the common prayer life, the spiritual formation of priest-candidates and the contact with the Churches. Sankt Ignatios is an international environment. Here you'll meet people from all over the world and become part of an exchange of knowledge and experience across both historical and geographical borders. Knowledge isn't something we own - it's something we share. Sankt Ignatios andliga akademi är en unik plats för studier och bildning. På Sankt Ignatios har du möjlighet att lära känna den ortodoxa/östkyrkliga traditionen på ett sätt som skapar kunskap och intresse och gör dig delaktig i kyrkan – och därmed också i den värld som vi delar med andra. Sankt Ignatios rymmer såväl en folkhögskola som akademiska studier och forskning. Du kan studera allmänna ämnen och teologi på förberedande nivå och hela vägen till doktorandstudier och egen forskning. Sankt Ignatios rymmer också fyra seminarier som fungerar som de olika kyrkornas egna rum i det gemensamma huset. Seminarierna ansvarar för det gemensamma gudstjänstlivet, den andliga formationen av prästkandidater och för kontakten med kyrkorna. Här möter du människor från hela världen och blir del av ett utbyte av kunskap och erfarenheter över både historiska och geografiska gränser. Kunskap är inget vi äger – utan något vi delar.

🎉 A huge congratulations to Dr. Miriam Hjälm, who became a Docent on Saturday, 29 August 2026. In her docent lecture entitled “In the Margins and Between the Lines,” she presented examples from Christian Arabic medieval texts that include or discuss the role of “other peoples’ traditions” as a means of understanding their own tradition. By doing so, she also highlighted the importance of integrating the rather overlooked Eastern Christian traditions into Western academia today.

Miriam holds the position of Academic Dean at Sankt Ignatios College, Stockholm School of Eastern Christian Studies. She is one of the many reasons why our Master's Degree in Eastern Christian Studies is an academically rigorous and socially relevant program in today's world.

🎉 Did you know? Sankt Ignatios College now has an independent university college called the Stockholm School of Eastern Christian Studies!

The importance of this accreditation by the government cannot be overstated. It means that, for the first time, Sweden will have an independent degree-awarding university college with an orientation towards Eastern Christian Studies.

Tomorrow, Saturday 29 August 2026, we'll mark this milestone with an inauguration ceremony that also installs our Dean, Dr. Michael Hjälm. The ceremony itself is by invitation only, but our doors are open more broadly: we invite you to be part of our collective contribution to the intellectual and religious life of Sweden 📖🎓

Sankt Ignatios College in Södertälje has been granted the right to award Master's degrees in Eastern Christian Studies - unique in Western Europe. We celebrate the inauguration on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Earlier this month, our Docent Thomas Arentzen was interviewed on The Holy Wild podcast, hosted by Victoria Loorz, founder of the Center for Wild Spirituality. The topic of conversation was Dr. Arentzen's book The Gospel of Trees, newly published in English. Their conversation is a fascinating exploration of early Christian monks living in trees, saints praying alongside cypresses, and birds singing hymns to God. Thomas shares how recovering our kinship with the living world is not something fundamentally new, but rather a return to Christianity's own roots.

On August 6-7, Sankt Ignatios College welcomed His Grace Bishop Benjamin of Boyarka, Administrator of the Western European Vicariate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The visit brought together clergy, students, staff, parishioners, and members of the Ukrainian community for a time of prayer, fellowship, and conversation. Bishop Benjamin was welcomed to the College with a tour and fika, followed by a Vigil service in the College Chapel, with students and choir members taking part.

The following morning, Bishop Benjamin presided over the Divine Liturgy in the College Chapel. Clergy, parishioners, members of the wider community, and Ukrainian refugees were invited to participate.

The visit reflected Sankt Ignatios College’s commitment to supporting Ukrainian communities, strengthening international Orthodox partnerships, and contributing to dialogue, peace, and the rebuilding of Ukrainian society.

Following the Liturgy, the community gathered for an agapé meal before Bishop Benjamin continued his journey to Gothenburg and Oslo.

Sankt Ignatios College was grateful for the opportunity to welcome Bishop Benjamin and to share in these days of prayer, fellowship, and mutual encouragement
