We are sorry for not having updated our facebook channel during season 2016. We had a great season and lots of guests we will remember. We will try to do better in 2017!

In end of the month of may we had booked an exursion payed by a gift card. We went to visit Värmde's den (close to Värmderåsen reserve in Dalarna). Värmde is a surviving cub who´s mother (Komola - a GPS collared bear) got shot illegally during the bear hunting 2015. We follow Värmde since last autumn and found that he was searching for his mother (and sibling that we could not find yet). He followed the wandering pathes he travelled with his family backways in about 6 weeks. This is a very interesting observation as it tells us about the bears astonishing ability to memorize a hundred km long wandering path in the wild and to feel/show affection to his family members. Finally Värmde decided to hibernate about 250m from the den he was given birth to the year before (please see earlier publications in our thread to see pictures and description of his birth site - look for Komola's den).
So we had the chance to visit both his birth place and his latest denning site.

Year 2016 first bear excursion went o flickrans' den of 2015 with a german family. As we were early in the year we went to an older den for minimizing the risk for disturbance of our valued bears but we could still see plenty of tracks and got an insight in the bears use of the surrounding eco-system. Excursion including overnight stay become more and more poular. Here we have guests from the US, the Netherlands and from the UK. Today we feature a cosy late night dinner at the lake side among unleashed bears.

I strongly like our guests comment on hibernation abilities of the Brown Bears: "I want to be a bear: First I eat untill I can't any more and then I'll take a long long sleep!". This and many more things did the Dutch family find out about bears when following on our excursion last saturday! We even practiced BEAR TRACK GEO CASHING and took a hike in a beautiful elderly forest.

Small Bear Excursion on Saturday 8th of august. We visit the research exhibition and try out to hibernate like a real bear.

Today our guests follow the research work at Close. They learn about how to program a GPS collar, look at all the research gear and finally learn about all the field work in the Scandinavian Bear Research Project.

Peter and Andrea stayed in Kvarnberg for one night and decided to follow on a bear excursion. We have got great feedback and our guesta are sure that they have done the right choice. Glad to hear that! Back from the tour there is a little extra: a small wagtail lands on our car so we have great opportunity to watch it from close.
