It’s time to nominate theses for Centre for European Studies’ Best Thesis Award 2026! The award is given to a Bachelor's or Master's thesis on European matters, defended at Lund University with distinction at the Faculties of Humanities and Theology, Social Science, Law, and the School of Economics and Management during the autumn semester 2025 or spring semester 2026.

Hur sårbart är Europa i en allt mer digitaliserad värld?

När samhällsviktig digital infrastruktur byggs upp med hjälp av ett fåtal utomeuropeiska aktörer väcks frågor om både säkerhet, beroende och europeiskt samarbete. Idag den 19/5 gästas Centrum för europaforskning av Cecilia Malmström, tidigare EU-kommissionär för handel, för en föreläsning om Europas geopolitiska utmaningar.

I en tid präglad av ekonomisk osäkerhet, skiftande allianser och ökade säkerhetspolitiska spänningar diskuteras EU roll i världen, global handel och Europas relationer till stormakter.

At a CFE seminar held in March, Anders Ahnlid, Director-General of the National Board of Trade, explored the EU’s role in an increasingly unstable global economy. From the Trump administration’s tariff policies to the weakening of the WTO and the future of the EU single market, the seminar highlighted the growing need for strong and proactive EU leadership in a changing world trade system.

How can Europe move towards a more sustainable fashion industry?

On 20 May, this symposium on sustainable fashion in Europe brings together leading researchers to discuss the environmental and social challenges connected to clothing production and consumption, and to explore possible pathways towards a more sustainable future.

The symposium offers interdisciplinary perspectives on one of Europe’s most pressing sustainability challenges: overproduction and excessive consumption of clothing.

The event is organised with the support of the Centre for European Studies at Lund University in collaboration with three Horizon Europe-funded projects focused on the fashion transition.

Bryssel lockar ambitiösa studenter från hela Europa - men svenskar är fortfarande underrepresenterade. Därför anordnade CFE och SEU seminariedagen “Du vill till Bryssel: Hur svårt kan det vara?” den 5 februari.

Med en fullsatt sal, engagerade talare och en högst uppskattad lunch fick studenter i Lund konkreta insikter om vägarna till EU:s huvudstad - från engagemang på hemmaplan till praktik, utbyte och karriär i Bryssel.

I slutet av april kom en banbrytande dom från EU-domstolen som otvetydigt slog fast att de fundamentala värden som beskrivs i artikel 2 av EU:s fördrag utgör grunden för det europeiska samarbetet och EU:s identitet. Joakim Zander skriver idag på Europakommentaren om hur domen bl.a. öppnar en helt ny väg för Europeiska kommissionen att utmana medlemsstaternas nationella politik om den bryter mot dessa grundläggande värderingar och om avgörandets stora betydelse i en tid när värden som demokrati, jämlikhet och rättsstaten snabbt monterats ned.

The Centre for European Studies (CFE) at Lund University invites applications for research preparation grants on European topics.

The grant supports the development of research applications, and covers up to one month of salary. Priority is given to collaborative and multidisciplinary projects.
