Hello! I'm Lukas, event coordinator for KNUT!

This week I've been to Gotland and Medeltidsveckan! I like to reenact viking age scandinavia and as such the fit is a somewhat historically correct outfit of a middle class norse man from late viking age (with modern shoes as I did quite a lot of walking :p).

The trip started with me and my cousin driving for 4h to Oskarshamn then taking the ferry to Gotland for another 3h to finally arrive tired at the camping! We arrived late in the night and set up at the "modern camping" as I don't have a historically accurate tent (yet!).

We were both volunteers at medeltidsveckan (which means we got to go there for free which I highly recommend doing) and as such the work started the next day.

I had the volonteer role of "ruin host" which meant I checked the tickets of people who came to the events. Most of these are in the many old church ruins! Very atmospheric!

However it's not all work! I also met a few KNUT:ers which is always a pleasure!

We also explored the large market, watched parades, saw some shows and swimmed!

All in all it was a warm and wonderful week of nice and nerdy people, fun events and good times!

If you ever get the chance to be a volunteer at medeltidsveckan I highly recommend it!

This summer we have had a great time excavating the middle neolithic Pitted Ware site Ge 16.9, just outside of Geta on the Finnish islands of Åland. Together with fellow KNUTers Estelle, Philip, and Albin, we spent a week partaking in this project of Jan Fast, while also having a nice vacation. In addition to this, we were fortunate to meet and work together with members of our counterpart Fjölnir from Uppsala!

Our travels began with an 8 hour car ride from Lund before the ferry ride to the islands and our final destination Ödkarby, where we would be staying for the week. The day after we arrived we had an introductory meeting at the Museum of Åland, where we got to familiarize ourselves with the finds of Geta from previous years. Lots and lots of ceramics and stone, and many amazing clay figurines as well!

Aiming to conclude six summers worth of excavations, we arrived Monday morning at the site for the first time. What is now located in the forested mountains of northwestern Åland, was then a place by the beach on a much smaller island. As this dig was the final one at the site we were quite unsure of what finds still remained in the sand, but Geta did not disappoint! The main excavation pit brought many beautifully decorated Pitted Ware sherds, marine bones, flakes and cores of quartz keratophyre, as well as two figurine fragments. We also had the opportunity to open up a smaller test pit in hopes of identifying the boundaries of the site. From this pit came not only a figurine piece, but a likely bone arrowhead and great amounts of ceramics and stone flakes as well. It was quite the experience as many of these finds emerged just before we filled in the pits on the final day!

Pretty much every afternoon after excavating we spent our time swimming and hanging on the docks by our accommodation, often joined by the neighbour’s 19 year old cat, Lisa. We also took some time to visit some churches and the medieval castle of Kastelholm!

We had a great time, and a big thank you to Jan Fast and team for having us!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since this beautiful evening! We have since seen many posts from you ball guests and they all warm our hearts 💚

We would love to thank every single one of you for attending KNUT’s 40 years anniversary ball and for all the kind words we’ve received both throughout the evening and afterwards. Never in our wildest imaginations did we expect the night to be such a wonderful experience, and we have all of you guests to thank for making the night incredible! 🥂

Most of the ball committee has been a bit busy with master theses but we have now handed in the first drafts 🥳 so we took some time off for the impossible task of picking the top 88 pics from the incredible photographers Samuel and Samuel and this is the result! 🎞️

We also want to thank the talented band Törner Cryda honouring us with your performance and the DJ Nikolaj who for keeping the dance floor crowded the entire evening. Another thanks to Sixten for the passionate leading of songs and to David (aka Thor). 💃

Hello everybody! Tomorrow is the big day and as the last portrait of this series we thought that we would present ourselves - The Ball Committee! 🍾

We are eight archaeology students from different subjects at the department in Lund and we are all former KNUT board members. Over the last year we have dedicated much of our free time to planning KNUT's 40th anniversary ball, something that has been, at times, stressful but most of all very fun! We are so excited for the ball tomorrow and can barely believe that the day is almost here. During the better part of a year we have held numerous meetings, booked and visited the venue, tasted the menu, booked a band and a DJ, designed merch, invitations and posters and created and bought decorations. ✨

The schedule for the big night is finished and all the “spex” is rehearsed. We are so happy that we are going to meet so many of you tomorrow, previous KNUT members, staff from the department, current KNUT-members, members of other student societies as well as family and friends! Our goal with this ball was to gather KNUTers and archaeologists from the past and present and celebrate together how much this organisation has meant, and still means, to students at the Department of Archaeology in Lund, and we have more than reached that goal! 🥂

Get ready for a magical night full of fun, KNUT memories, good food, music, dance and both old and new friends! 💚

We are excited to announce that our next Storting will takw place in 5 weeks, in which we shall be electing a new Chairperson, vice-Chairperson and 3 new Event Coordinators.

If you are interested in these positions, please come to our next meeting on Monday, 4th May 12:15-13:00 in room LUX:A127.

The Google Form to apply for these positions is available through the link in our bio titled “Join the KNUT board!”, and applications are open until 11th May.

The elections shall be held at the next Storting, with a preliminary date of 16:30 on 28th May (subject to adjustment).

Du var aktiv i KNUT 2013-2018 (med en paus i mitten för utbytesstudier). Vad jobbar du med idag?
Jag är arkeolog på Kulturmiljö Halland och en av projektledarna för de arkeologiska undersökningarna där. Jag varvar fältarbete med att sortera fynd, skicka prover på analys och skriva rapporter och undersökningsplaner. Just nu har alla på Kulturmiljö Halland varsitt forskningsprojekt, och jag forskar om Hallands hällristningar. Ett jättekul jobb och en väldigt fin arbetsplats!

Vad var din roll i KNUT?
Jag började som Vice Ordförande, sen Ordförande (efter den eminente Julius Lundin). Tog en paus (och lämnade över till den otrolige Peter Fogelberg) och kom tillbaka som ekonomiansvarig.

Vad tycker du är det bästa med KNUT och din tid i föreningen?
Att få vara med och driva en förening med andra arkeologer. Som jag minns det ville vi allihop samma saker: prata om arkeologi, se på arkeologiska platser, pilla med arkeologiska föremål och anordna pubar/fester där vi kunde dricka öl/vin och prata ännu mer om arkeologi. Det var en underbart gemensam nördighet och stolthet över nördigheten. Jag lärde mig jättemycket om föreningsliv och vad som krävs för att anordna föreläsningar, publika evenemang och större fester.

Har du någon rolig KNUT-historia som du vill dela med dig av?
Jag älskar att planera evenemang och träffa nya människor. I KNUT kunde jag få utlopp för det tillsammans med likasinnade. Mina bästa minnen av KNUT kommer från våra olika fester eller föreläsningar. En gång bjöd vi in ett balkanband att spela live på innergården på gamla arkeologen. De ställde sig i spiraltrappan och spelade och det var ljuvligt. En annan gång anordnade vi en föreläsning om medeltida fäktning på LUX. Två KNUTare skulle ha uppvisning och salen var för liten (som jag minns det fick vi avbryta när någon råkade hugga ett hål i en vägg). Då flyttade vi ut fäktningen i entrén på LUX och det blev otroligt spännande när klirrandet av svärd lockade till sig åskådare från alla håll i byggnaden.

Du var aktiv i KNUT mellan 2006-2011. Vad jobbar du med idag?
Jag är biträdande lektor i Antikens kultur och samhällsliv i Uppsala efter att ha varit vicedirektör på Svenska Institutet i Athen.

Vad var din roll i KNUT?
Jag var med i styrelsen, men jag minns inte vilken position jag hade. Jag tror att jag var sekreterare ett tag?

Vad tycker du är det bästa med KNUT och din tid i föreningen?
Att vi kunde hänga i KNUTrummet och ha KNUTpubbar. Utan det tror jag inte att jag tagit mig vidare i ämnet.

Har du någon annan rolig KNUT-historia som du vill dela med dig av?
Både ja och nej. För mig var det vardagsdelen av Knut som var det viktiga och alla mina vänner där. Det är svårt att minnas specifika händelser som mer roliga än andra, det var helheten som var viktig och den starka gemenskap den skapade på institutionen. Den första bilden är från Akrokorinth i Grekland, tagen av Katrin Arendi och den andra är från en KNUT-pub i det gamla KNUT-rummet på Arkeologen.

Du var KNUTaktiv 2005-2009 då du studerade till arkeolog, vad arbetar du med idag?
Osteolog/projektledare på Sydsvensk arkeologi. Första bilden ser ni mig i somras på en undersökning i Gottorp!

Vad var din roll i KNUT?
Jag hade ingen roll i KNUTs styrelse utan deltog mest i aktiviteter som medlem. På andra bilden är jag utklädd till Yggdrasil inför en KNUT-fest med temat mytologi (tror jag).

Vad tycker du är det bästa med KNUT och din tid i föreningen?
Det sociala! Att det fanns en naturlig mötesplats för likasinnade.

Har du någon rolig KNUT-historia som du vill dela med dig av?
Vi hade en stor temafest på Fotevikens museum. Det måste ha varit en bit in på hösten för det var becksvart. För att gå på toaletterna var man tvungen att gå en ganska lång bit från huset där vi hade festen och det var flera som både trillade och gick halvt vilse i beckmörkret.
