Central Asian Law project's Principal Investigator Rustamjon Urinboyev presented his new book published together with Måns Svensson, professor of sociology of law at Jönköping University. The presentation of the book - "Law, Society and Corruption: Lessons from the Central Asian Context" took place at the Sociology of Law department of Lund University. Building on socio-legal frameworks of legal compliance, living law and legal pluralism, the book's central argument is that corruption's roles, meanings, and logics are fluid, and depend on many structural variables, and contextual and situational factors. A long anticipated edited volume with articles by the project researchers is finally published! "The Political Economy of Central Asian Law: A Law and Society Analysis" is an open-access book, providing a deep insight into the law, society and governance in Central Asia. By taking the interdisciplinary perspective of law and society, the book explores the social life of law and legal institutions in Central Asia in broader terms, encompassing not only the state legal system and institutions but also various informal (non-legal) forms of normative ordering. Central Asian Law project participants presented their research at the CESS Annual Conference at the University of Pittsburgh

The Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) successfully hosted its highly anticipated annual conference held from October 19 to 22, 2023, at the University of Pittsburgh, United States. The event brought together esteemed scholars, researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts from across the globe to delve into the multifaceted dynamics of Central Eurasia’s ongoing transformation.

Hosted in the vibrant city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the conference provided an unparalleled platform for comprehensive and interdisciplinary dialogue, fostering a deeper understanding of the region's evolving landscapes. CESS 2023 gathered practitioners and scholars relating to all aspects of humanities and social science scholarship across the region, including Central Eurasia, which encompasses Central Asia, the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, Tibet, Mongolia, Siberia, Inner Asia, the Black Sea region, the Volga region, and East and Central Europe.
