Living Laboratory in Climate Change

Living Laboratory in Climate Change (LiLaCC) is Erasmus+ Capacity-Building in the field of Higher Education project (2021 - 2023).

LiLaCC project is and EU-funded curriculum development project, aimed to develop a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) in "Disruptive Information Technologies for Climate Change Mitigation". Project partners include universities from Sweden (Lulea University of Technology), Finland (Lappeenranta University of Technology), Russia (ITMO University and Northern (Arctic) Federal University) and South Af

rica (Stellenbosch University and University of KwaZulu-Natal). Both significant outcomes of the LiLaCC project, i.e. MOOC and living laboratory infrastructure are intended in the first place for university students. However, since MOOCs are by definition, massive and open for the general public, the same applies to the availability of fab lab facilities. The prerequisite for an interested individual outside a partnering university to participate in a fab lab project would be the successful completion of the LiLaCC MOOC. This arrangement contributes to the issues of social responsibility of academia in South Africa and Russia and further emphasises and enhances societal participation and response to the climate change problems. The novelty of LiLaCC project lies in the combination of two disruptive approaches, which are a modern massive open pedagogical strategy (MOOC) along with the MOOCs subject matter in disruptive information technologies, which offers potential solutions to barriers impeding climate change mitigation actions. Meet the LiLaCC team: Professor Andrei Rybin from ITMO University. Andrei has extensive experience in international project management of educational and research projects at ITMO. He has MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, Finland and Manchester Business School, UK . Areas of interest: risk and change management, finance, marketing, business in Russia and the post-Soviet successor states, strategy, country and political risk, intercultural communication and negotiation. Professor Rybin also has extensive research experience in the Theory of Solitons and Quantum Optics.

Meet the LiLaCC team: Thematic coordinator Natalia Sluzova (née Shilova), Vice-Rector for Digitalization - "Digital Arctiс" Project Director, PhD, Northern Arctic Federal University, Russia, Arkhangelsk. Teacher of applied mathematics at PSU/NArFU since 2006.
Graduated from Pomor State University (major: Mathematics) and Northern Arctic Federal University (MA, major: Public administration) in Arkhangelsk, Russia. Gained a PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics in 2013. Completed professional development courses on university strategy development in SKOLKOVO Business School.
In 2015 – 2017 held a position of the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Arkhangelsk Regional Government
Research fields: mathematical modeling and optimal control of complex ecological and economic systems, advanced strategic management models, multidisciplinary approach to the biocluster economy, optimal management of complex systems. The author of over 40 research publications and textbooks.

Meet the LiLaCC team:
Ph.D. Abdolrasoul Habibipour is a postdoctoral researcher in Information Systems at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden and is a User Engagement Expert at Botnia Living Lab, Sweden. His research focuses on participatory design and user engagement in living lab context, with a particular emphasis on users’ motivations and needs. Abdolrasoul has previously worked in information technology (IT) projects for more than 13 years as a project leader and project manager as well as software designer and developer. Abdolrasoul has experience teaching and supervising students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has published several journal and conference articles in his research topic. He also serves as a reviewer in different international conferences and scientific journals within the information systems field. Abdolrasoul has been involved in different international innovation and research projects such as Privacy Flag, USEMP and U4IoT projects and is currently working on UNaLab and LiLaCC project, all of which are financed by the European Commission.

Meet the LiLaCC team: Regional coordinator Lyubov Zarubina, Head of International Cooperation Department, Northern Arctic Federal University, Russia, Arkhangelsk (e-mail: [email protected]).
Graduated from Pomor State University (major: Linguistics) and International Institute of Management (major: Management) in Arkhangelsk, Russia. Completed professional development courses on university strategy development (SKOLKOVO Business School, Moscow, 2018), had a number of internships in foreign universities in Norway, Finland, Spain, Germany, Latvia and others.
Has over 20 years of experience in the field of international cooperation, international projects management, higher education management. Takes responsibility and coordinates the work on internationalization process and international cooperation development of the university. Has been engaged as a project developer, project coordinator, project steering committee member in over 25 large-scale international projects in such thematic fields as higher education, ecology, culture, tourism, safety, agriculture and others. Acts as international project assessor in EU cross-border cooperation programme and external evaluator in other programmes.
Research interests: internationalization, borderology, cross-border cooperation in the North. The author of over 10 research publications and textbooks.

Meet the LiLaCC team: Ph.D. Anna Ståhlbröst is the chaired professor of Information systems and the head of division for Digital Services and Systems at LTU. The scientific discipline Information Systems is a discipline focusing on understanding digital technologies and its impact on society, organisations and individuals. Anna’s research is focused on citizen engagement and human-centred approaches to development of digital service innovations built on technologies such as AI, IoT and 5G, the impact of these technologies and innovative approaches to increase the positive impact of the innovations. Anna’s research is related to different application areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Smart Cities and Regions and Internet of Things. Anna has participated in numerous European and national innovation and research projects and she has been published in several scientific journals as well as in books and at conferences. Anna is a council member of the Energy Office North, she is in the research council for LTU targeted future areas and she was previously a member of the research ethical board in Sweden.

LiLaCC Staff training workshop took place 24 March 2021. It was organised by LTU via Zoom. LTU shared its experience in MOOC development (Hamam Mokayed, Wiebke Reim), and also made a presentation of a living laboratory concept and realisation (Anna Ståhlbröst). After the presentations all participants divided into two teams and discussed living lab key components, making an interactive table, and shared their insights afterwards. The whole event was managed by PhD Abdolrasoul Habibipour, a member of LTU LiLaCC team.

Meet LiLaCC project partners - Lulea University of Technology (LTU). LTU is Scandinavia's northernmost university of technology. It has four campuses, located in Luleå (the main campus), Kiruna (space science), Skellefteå (wood technology, 3D graphics and computer game engineering) and Piteå (Department of music and media). From 50 students when it started, to a significant University with operations in four locations and close to 70 different research topics.
