Strengthen your hospital’s disaster preparedness – before the crisis happens. Join the pre-course “Hospital Disaster Preparedness as a System: Integrating Strategic, Tactical and Operational Levels” at the EuSEM congress 2026!
📅 24 September 2026
📍 Paris, France
This one-day pre-course provides a structured and practical introduction to how hospitals manage major incidents and crises — with a strong focus on how strategic, tactical, and operational levels interact and depend on each other.
💡 What you will gain:
• A clear understanding of the key principles of hospital disaster preparedness
• Insight into how decisions are coordinated across different levels
• Improved awareness of roles and responsibilities during crises
• Tools to identify and address common challenges in communication and coordination
🔧 Hands-on simulation with Emergo Train System (ETS)
A key part of the course is a multidisciplinary simulation exercise using the Emergo Train System, where participants will:
• Train decision-making in a realistic major incident scenario
• Practice patient flow and capacity management under pressure
• Strengthen coordination between departments such as Triage, Emergency Department, ICU, Operating Room, and Inpatient Wards
This practical exercise is designed to evaluate and improve the hospital’s integrated response, helping identify both strengths and development areas in real-time.
👥 Who should attend?
• Hospital leaders and decision-makers
• Clinical, nursing, and administrative staff
• Emergency coordinators and preparedness managers
• Response and security teams
• Anyone involved in patient safety and crisis response

ETS instructor Earl Hernandez recently led an engaging exercise in Trinidad and Tobago for the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force, using ETS figurant cards. As part of the Jungle Living program, the training featured realistic simulations in medical response, search and rescue, casualty extraction, and evaluation—providing hands-on experience in critical field operations.

Decontamination at Hospital – Set Version 4 is now also available in Dutch!
This set includes materials designed to support both testing and training of hospital decontamination organizations. It features a comprehensive victim bank with patients exposed to irritant gases (e.g., ammonia), cyanide, and nerve agents (e.g., Sarin).
The Dutch translation and customization have been made in close collaboration with the Dutch ETS faculty in Groningen.

This week, the Emergo Train System family has grown with 20 new Swedish instructors!
During their training, participants learned how to plan, set up, and evaluate a wide range of simulation exercises using the ETS tool. The new instructors represent Region Kronoberg, Region Jönköping, Region Gävleborg, Region Stockholm, Region Västerbotten, Region Värmland, as well as the University of Gothenburg.
We wish them all the best in their future simulation-based training and exercises!

Last week, the Emergo Train System (ETS) Faculty in Korea hosted an ETS Senior Instructor Course for participants from Jakarta and Lombok, Indonesia.
This initiative is part of an educational collaboration in which Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, provides instructor-level ETS training. Following the course, participants are equipped to implement ETS simulation-based training and exercises in Indonesia. The project aims to strengthen training capacity and support the development of high-quality emergency and healthcare education through international collaboration.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Linköping University in Sweden, integrates ETS into the education and training of nursing and medical students.
Last week, a simulation-based ETS exercise was conducted with a focus on the management of a mass casualty incident. The scenario involved a sudden influx of multiple injured patients to the hospital, designed to replicate the complexity and time critical nature of real-world emergency situations.
The exercise provided students with the opportunity to develop clinical decision-making, prioritization, and interprofessional teamwork skills within a realistic and controlled learning environment.

Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) hosted a three-day workshop in the Czech Republic focused on preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents.☢️
Organized in collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Health, the State Office for Nuclear Safety, and the National Radiation Protection Institute, the workshop aimed to strengthen hospital preparedness for complex emergencies. Key objectives included improving coordination and decision-making, enhancing operational readiness for high risk scenarios, and aligning hospital procedures with national preparedness frameworks.
A total of 56 participants—including clinicians, emergency managers, nurses, and hospital leaders from hospitals across the country—took part in the workshop. On the final day, ETS Senior Instructor Vitalii Stetsyk from the WHO Regional Office for Europe facilitated a simulation exercise testing triage, zoning, patient pathways, treatment, coordination, and communication during a major crisis. During the exercise, newly developed Emergo Train System (ETS) radiological and nuclear (RN) patients—created by the ETS Competence Center in collaboration with radiation physicists at Linköping University Hospital, Sweden—were tested and evaluated.
The ETS Competence Center is pleased to have been part of this important collaboration with WHO and will continue developing the RN victim bank for future use by ETS instructors and organizations worldwide.
