When I lived in Ghana, I never really respected the sun — it was always there, always available, so I took it for granted.

Later, when I moved to Sweden, I began to see the sun differently. In northern Sweden, from October to April, the days are dark with only 2–4 hours of sunlight. Then in summer, the sun barely sets — it shines late into the evening and can even keep you awake at night.

In Ghana, when the sun blazes, we hide in the shade — too much sun means headaches, sickness, or darker skin.

In Sweden, “nice weather” means the sun is shining, and everyone rushes outside to eat, barbecue, or walk.

Funny how the same sun can mean escape in one place and celebration in another. 🌞
