How can Nordic cooperation make a difference for LGBTI people living in rural communities? This was one of several important questions discussed at a Nordic seminar in Tórshavn last week.
The discussions highlighted that LGBTI people living in rural areas may face specific challenges, but also that rural communities offer unique opportunities. A key takeaway was the need to challenge the established dichotomy between rural and urban areas, and instead recognise the diversity and lived realities of different local contexts.
🤝 Nordic cooperation can play an important role through:
🔹 Enabling knowledge exchange
🔹 Supporting common frameworks and legitimacy
🔹 Highlighting and sharing good practices
A warm thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the seminar ⭐

Happy Pride! 🌈
Last weekend Fredrika Almqvist, Project coordinator att NIKK, visited Nuuk, Greenland to organise a seminar on 'LGBTI peoples living conditions in Greenland – perspectives, opportunities, and challenges' together with Sipineq+.
It was a well-attended event where we had the chance to share our work and listen to insightful information and discussions about the specific situation in Greenland and the West Nordic region. A big thank you to NAPA - The Nordic Institute in Greenland for having us.
On Saturday, we took part in a fantastic Pride parade!

What are the living conditions for LGBTI people in the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland? NIKK is investigating this in a new publication that brings together legislation, policy, key stakeholders and ongoing Nordic initiatives in the LGBTI field in these three countries.
Several legal reforms relating to LGBTI rights have been implemented over the past decade in all three countries. However, it is also evident that certain fundamental structures and institutional frameworks are lacking.
