👇 5 things I did not know about Gothenburg before coming here to study the Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics!
1. You’ll make friends fast 🤝
Coming in knowing nobody felt scary. Turns out, Swedish uni runs on group work - you have friends before the first week is over. Add an international program where everyone’s in the same boat, and you figure it out fast.
2. It’s not a concrete jungle 🌿
Gothenburg has parks everywhere, beautiful historic neighborhoods to just walk through, and the archipelagos just 30 minutes by tram and the boats are usually accessible with the same ticket.
3. The social life for students is easy to find 🙋🏽♂️
The student union runs actual companies, there’s a student pub on campus, and there’s always something on through one of the university associations. With some effort, it kind of finds you.
4. Easy travelling on a student budget 🚂
I did not expect to be in Copenhagen for a weekend on a student budget. Gothenburg sits in a weird sweet spot — budget flights go out regularly, and Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen are all reachable by train or bus for not that much. Ended up travelling way more than I planned.
5. Get by in English, ease into Swedish 🇸🇪
Swedish is not required. Almost everyone here speaks English, and if you want to learn Swedish, the low-pressure environment makes it easy to practice a word here and there, knowing you can always switch back.
