From the archives; Monica Sjöö, Kvinnofolkhögskolan Göteborg

Monica Sjöö, (December 31, 1938 – August 8, 2005), a Swedish painter, writer and a radical anarcho/ eco-feminist & an early exponent of the Goddess movement.
Sjöö’s most famous painting is the controversial God Giving Birth (1968), which depicts a non-white woman giving birth; it was censored multiple times and at one art show, Sjöö was reported to the police for blasphemy.

Feminist Focus; Film, Text & Performance


Based on an activist tradition, we use the body and the means available to investigate and shape the private and the political and you learn to shape theory and philosophy through artistic practice.
Great focus is placed on the artistic process; Exploring what, why and to whom we tell is as important as how. We discuss the impact of art on contemporary politics and historical, aesthetic, and ethical choices, artistic responsibility - artistic freedom and issues based on art as part of the public debate.

We work to strengthen, influence, create community and discussion and collaborate with groups and actors both inside and outside the school. We learn to give and receive constructive criticism and to see our work as part of an ongoing process. We learn to structure and plan the work - from aesthetic choices to financial planning.
You who are applying may have a lot or little experience of artistic work, the important thing is that you are passionate about art and politics and that you are interested in working and developing in a group.
