We have just ended a kick-off meeting for our new 3-year Erasmus+ project "Vocational Accessibility for the Deaf and Deafblind with Spreadthesign - SPREADACS". During this project we will expand our dictionary`s social haptic section in Swedish, Portuguese, Estonian, Finnish and Italian; create a manual for using the social haptic communication in the mentioned languages and add Norwegian Sign Language to the dictionary. General information of the social haptic section will also be made available in most of the other written languages that are presented in our dictionary.

Our new iOS app for beginners is now open for testing! Vocabulary, sentences, dialogues, information about 16 different European countries, a fun quiz and FAQ-s are now available for exploring. Download and check it out here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spreadthesign-beginners/id6717600571

Since the beginning of Spreadthesign in 2006, we have tried to keep our dictionary freely accessible to all the sign language learners, with an intention to support inclusion and accessibility for the Deaf communities all around Europe and beyond. However, all our work has been non-profit and project-based, which has led us to a difficult situation, where we have to struggle with being able to continue due to the significant monthly maintenance and updating costs that we need to cover.

Limited possibilities and challenges often provoke creative ideas. Here are some examples of our teams` hand-made "prompters", height adjusters and "offices": ironing boards, books, baby chairs, random pieces of furniture - anything goes as long as it helps to achieve the goal. :)

Our big happy Spreadthesign family is having a project meeting in Germany at this very moment. Partners from 15 countries have gathered to discuss the final details about our new section that is to be added to our dictionary soon - Sign Language for Beginners. It will contain new vocabulary, sentences, dialogues, FAQs, a section for introducing 16 European countries and a quiz. The project is supported by the Erasmus+ program and results of our work will be published in the end of 2024.
