الكوازار (الكوازارات – Quasars ) هي أجسام بعيدة تتزود بالطاقة من الثقوب السوداء، وهي أجسام ضخمة بمليار ضعف عن شمسنا وهي تتوهّج لمعاناً حتى تفوقت على المجرات القديمة التي كانت تحتويها.
الكوازارات التي نعرفها يبلغ عددها 2000 كوازار ومعظمها تَكوَّن في بداية َتكَوُّن المجرَّات، ومجرات مثل مجرة درب التبانة ربما تكون قد استضافت كوازاراً خامداً لفترة طويلة.
تبعث الكوازارات طاقة بقوة ملايين أو مليارات أو تريليونات إلكترون فولت. هذه الطاقة تتعدى إجمالي ضوء كل النجوم داخل المجرة، والكوازارات أكثر الأجسام سطوعاً في الكون، فهي تسْطع من 10 إلى 100,000 ضعف أسطع من مجرة درب التبانة.
