"Starting your first job as a designer, one of the first things you learn is that, unlike university, many real-life influences limit your de-sign potential. These can include a client who has an unrealistic vision, a tight budget, a poor chain supply etc. These challenges were also faced by the architect Mclean 120 years ago when he designed Khartoum city. Our story starts after the death of Charles Gordon. Lord Kitchener wanted to become the Viceroy of India, and he needed a huge victory to advance his career. So, he convinced the government that the mahdists were a real threat to Egypt and Gordon needed to be avenged."

The Manchester guardian reported: We recorded death-rate is but little over 9 per 1000. The death rate for town districts in England is often about 18 per 1000."
