*A Short Article Using The 10 Words*

*Instruction:* Read the article below using the 10 new words you've learned.

In many Sudanese and South Sudanese *communities*, the group is often more important than the *individual*. People grow up learning that they have an *obligation* to their families and neighbors. They are taught to make *sacrifices*, to put the community first. This system can create strong *support* and deep *respect* among people. But sometimes, it also brings *pressure.* Young people may feel they cannot choose their own paths because of *tradition*. They must find a *balance* between their own dreams and their community’s needs. In the end, many ask: can we have both strong communities and personal *freedom*?

*10 Conversation Questions*

Each question uses one vocabulary word and is designed for giving opinions, clarifying ideas, or agreeing/disagreeing.

*1. Community:* Do you think the community is more important than the person? Why or why not?

*2. Individual:* Should individuals always follow the group, or make their own choices?

*3. Obligation:* What obligations do you feel to your family or community?

*4. Sacrifice:* Have you ever made a sacrifice for someone else? Was it worth it?

*5. Support:* Do you think people in your community support each other enough?

*6. Respect:* How do you show respect to older people in your culture?

*7. Pressure:* Do young people feel too much pressure to follow family expectations?

*8. Tradition:* Should traditions always be followed, even when they feel unfair?

*9. Balance:* How can a person balance their own life with helping their community?

*10. Freedom:* Do people have enough freedom to make their own life choices? Why or why not?
