PowerFactory Tutorial: Optimal Tuning of PEM Electrolyzers in Hybrid HVDC-HVAC Grids
Welcome to this advanced power systems research tutorial! In this video, we explore the integration of Green Hydrogen technologies into the grid by simulating the Optimal Tuning of Fast Active Power Support in a Multi-Area HVDC-HVAC Power System using a PEM Electrolyzer in DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
As modern power systems integrate more renewable energy, maintaining frequency stability across interconnected AC and DC grids becomes highly challenging. We demonstrate how Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers—traditionally used for Power-to-Gas (P2G)—can be optimally tuned to act as highly responsive controllable loads, providing critical Fast Active Power Support during grid disturbances.
