" sometimes I just think that it is better to become indifferent rather than indignant"
Darajati Tariq
Darajati Tariq was born circa 961 near Medina. He travelled extensively and preached and wrote critical accounts of his time.
"Ahmed was a hardworking man. Every day of his life was spent toiling away at his fields. He worked all day, every day. However he never realised some of his land was barren. No matter how hard he worked nothing could be done. Sometimes effort is not enough. We need to stop and think about the facts before us." Tariq Darajati.
"A terrible jeweller will not bring out the brilliance of a good stone. He will in fact make it look dull and valueless. It is quite apparent that some craftsmen in the political arena are chosen not for their capacity to reveal the true value of issues as they stand, but rather to conceal it."
"You need not worry too much about that which you doubt,,,,,,but worry more about that of which you are certain of!"
One particular Sultan was a very honest and God fearing man. Once he was worried about his bad moods. He realised that some of his sentences were unfair as they were the result of bad moods rather that rational thought. He decreed that none of his enforcement edicts ought to be enforced before a period of five days. Unlucky were those that had his edicts re-enforced five days later falling on a nother of one his bad mood days.
The King would sometimes visit the local suq and mix with those that held stalls there and with their customers. He would enquire about their business, families and life. He would feel very proud of himself. In fact, he would return to his palace feeling good and happy. This in spite of the fact that all his subjects thought of him as a fool.
"We were sitting in the majlis of our generous host. Each of us wore different headdress and spoke different tongues. We all ate the food our hosts offered us, so different from our own. the customs were polite, the manners good, and the intentions safe. In all our differences, we all needed food, shelter and rest. Though we used different spices all our food was the same even if we cooked differently. It was indeed a pity to see so many people of such standing and goodwill resist overcoming their own egos to find solutions that were rational and quite clear. But this is life in the majlis. " Darajati Tariq 'The Majlis'.
"Through the knowledge you gain, people will show you different types of respect. The treacherous will fear to look you in the eye, and they will avoid you like hell fire. This will not spare you their blasphemy of course, for you will be under the attack of their poisonous tongues. But they will fear you. The mediocre may not understand., Fear them, for they are weak and impressionable. But seek knowledge, even if it saddens you." Tariq Darajati, On Knowledge.
"Why do some hearts yearn hearts that are not within their reach? Why do they ignore the hearts that love them and insist on loving the hearts further away who have eyes set on yet other hearts? Well, simple because they are like nature - the moon and the sun love each other but never meet... they live yearning each other and searching for each other, but always travelling in the wrong direction. This is simply the bad luck of some hearts. But the real tragedy are two hearts that love one another, are in sight of each other, are within reach of each other, but keep themselves apart for reasons that are foolish, like imaginary duty, pride, pseudo values or external pressure... This is the real tragedy of love.... " Darajati TARIQ "On love"
"Knowledge can never be taken away from you....seek knowledge,.,,,,,no one can compete with you, and no one can challenge what you know."
"You can't trust the sea; the sea is moody and can just change its mood in a few moments and violently repel those that annoy its peace. But the mountains are more dangerous. They dont show their moods. They deploy stealth. When you least expect it, they will swallow you up. When you get lost at sea you worry as nothing is in sight. But when you get lost on a mountain you will not realise you are lost and the earth is deceitfully reassuring. The mountain will swallow you up silently. The dead bodies at sea float under the sun, the dead bodies on a mountain are hidden away out of sight. Never trust either the sea or the mountain!"
"We all dress the same as we are all different; if we all dressed differently, we would all be the same!"
