Lesson 1: Part 3
Good morning: صَبَاحُ الخَير (Sabaah ul khair)

The word Sabaah ul-Khair originates from the zoroastrians(fire worshippers). They believed in the powers of good and evil, and their role in organizing their life affairs. They therefore used the word Sabaah ul-Khair as a word to denote the power of good.

As a muslim its better to say first the Islamic َGreeting 'Assalamou alaikoum'
,السَّلاَمُ عَلَيكُم
Then there is no wrong in saying sabah ul khair after.

“It is hard. But when you understand how beautifully Arabic fits together – why the root meaning ‘west’ leads to the words for ‘sunset’ and ‘strange’ – the sense of illumination is sublimely satisfying. No mere French subjunctive or Russian instrumental can do that. And the pleasure will never dim. Fluency may elude you, but there will always be a fascination in picking your way through Arabic’s intricacies."

-Josie Delap, Editor of the Middle East/Africa section of The Economist-
