🕋 In the leadup to Dhulhijja, I love revisiting the story of Prophet Ibrahim (A) in the Quran, and it never fails to amaze me how beautifully Allah describes him, how He speaks of Him in such glowing terms, much like a proud parent who can't help but gush about their child's achievements, (though of course Allah is far far above and beyond that).

♥️ In Surah Hud, for example, in the midst of narrating how Ibrahim (A) was taken aback by these weird creatures (angels) who came to visit him to give him good news of a son, then bad news about the destruction of the people of Lut, and how he pleaded with Allah not to punish the people of Lut, Allah suddenly interrupts His own narrative to praise him:
"Ibrahim is really tender-hearted, forbearing and oft-returning (to Allah). "

⭐️ I find it fascinating how He praises him using such specific adjectives, and expresses exactly what he's like and how dear he is to Him, mentioning exactly what was so special about him: his tender-heartedness and solid monotheism, so that we in turn can strive to emulate him, especially in the Hajj.

👏🏻 In extension of that though, I feel that Allah's praise of His prophets teaches us how to correctly express our pride in our children and their achievements in turn, and how to praise them using specific language to describe what they did well, rather than just 'Good job!' and 'Well done!'

📖 This chapter of my book “50 Qur’anic Comforts for Mums” - where I share how I came to learn and apply this lesson (the hard way, of course!) with my son and his achievements - was inspired by this beautiful description of Prophet Ibrahim (A).
