‏اَللّٰھُمَّ صَلِِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍوَّعَلٰی آلِ مُحَمَّدٍکَماصَلَّيتَ عَلٰی اِبْراھِيمَ وَعَلٰی آلِ اِبْراھِيمَ اِنَّكَ حَمِيدُمَّجِيدُُ۞

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has warned that burn injuries in Gaza are a “prolonged sentence of suffering,” worsened by the collapse of the healthcare system after 19 months of Israeli attacks. MSF reports that many patients, especially children, suffer burns over up to 40% of their bodies, caused by bombings and unsafe cooking methods.

With Israeli authorities maintaining a blockade on Gaza, critical medical supplies are running out, leaving burn victims without adequate pain relief or proper care. Since March 18, MSF teams have seen a surge in burn injuries, treating over 100 patients daily at their Gaza City clinic. In Nasser Hospital alone, MSF performed over 1,000 burn surgeries since May 2024, with 70% of patients being children under five.

Severe burns require complex, long-term treatment, yet only a handful of surgeons remain able to manage these cases. MSF teams have conducted over 6,500 burn dressings since December 2024, but nearly half of patients cannot return for follow-up due to the destruction of services and travel barriers. Over half of Gaza’s remaining healthcare facilities are now in areas under evacuation orders, making access to care almost impossible, according to the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
