SYNONYMS
For IGCSE students, studying synonyms is a powerful way to level up writing and speaking performance. When learners understand word shades and precise alternatives, they can:
• Avoid repetition and make writing more sophisticated
• Choose words that match tone and context accurately
• Improve reading comprehension in exams
• Express ideas more clearly and confidently
• Score higher in descriptive, narrative, and argumentative tasks
Examiners reward precision. The difference between a basic response and a high-band answer often lies in vocabulary choice.
Below is a focused list of essential synonyms our students should master. Review them, practise them, and start using them actively in sentences.
Vocabulary growth is cumulative — small daily improvements create a major advantage in exam performance.

نعمل ايه مع ال photo description
طيب هنقسمها ل Do points & Don’t points
وبعدها هندي instructions توضح ممكن تكتب عن ايه وازاي
Here are our top tips for describing a photo or a picture in an exam.
Do:
• Look at your picture carefully and take a few moments to think before you start talking.
• Talk for all the time you are given. If you have one minute to do the task, use every second.
• Practise the useful language below so you can explain which part of the picture you are talking about.
Don’t:
• Panic if you don’t know the words for all the things in the picture. You don’t need to know all the words for everything in the picture if you know what to say when you don't know an exact word.
• Get distracted and start talking about something else. Focus on the photo or picture.
• Panic if your mind goes blank. Take a deep breath, look at the picture and start again.
If you are asked to describe a photo or a picture in the exam, here is some language you can use:
✅ What is in the picture?
In the picture I can see ...
There’s / There are ...
There isn’t a ... / There aren’t any ...
✅ Say what is happening with the present continuous
The man is ...ing
The people are ...ing
It’s raining.
✅ Where in the picture?
At the top/bottom of the picture ...
In the middle of the picture ...
On the left/right of the picture ...
next to
in front of
behind
near
on top of
under
✅ If something isn’t clear
It looks like a ...
It might be a ...
He could be ...ing
Maybe it’s a ...

Congratulations to my Cambridge students who sat the November session and achieved A* results. Your scores reflect your consistency, resilience, and genuine effort.
Behind every A* is a student who revised when it was difficult, rewrote answers after feedback, and learned how to think, not just memorise. Watching that growth has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
Well done to each of you. You earned this, and you set a standard that others can look up to. The future is wide open—keep going.

The November 2025 grading curve for all codes has now been released. As always, Cambridge’s curve for English is higher than that of other examination boards. We hope that the June session will be more favorable.
That said, under all circumstances, our goal remains unchanged: we prepare for full marks. When preparation and performance are strong, the curve becomes irrelevant. Focus on mastery and consistency and in shaa Allah success will follow.

I am incredibly proud to congratulate my students on their exceptional success in Oxford English as a Second Language (9280) for the November 2025 session, with results released today.
Every single student achieved an A* is a truly remarkable accomplishment that reflects your hard work and commitment to excellence. This success did not come by chance; it is the result of consistent effort, perseverance, and a genuine passion for learning.
Well done to each and every one of you. You have set a standard to be proud of, and this is only the beginning of many more achievements to come.
