My personal list for Tumbaga increased by one on my first ever Philippine birding for 2026 in mid-March. I was just literally telling Errol and Ruel that for some reason I kept missing the Brahminy Kite in my local patch (previously recorded by other birders) when in a distance materialized the unmistakable raptor. Talk about manifesting! Nothing spectacular other than that, just the usual and expected 1 and 2-star birds, but I was supper happy and honored to have helped Ruel record his first birds. Tarlac is in dire need of birders so props to Errol for introducing birding to him. Keep on birding pare!

In February I scored my very first Pale Rockfinch thanks to a lead by fellow eBirders on eBird. I’ve been trying to snag this unpretentious bird since way back and when I did it was not one but literally hundreds of them! Truly a humbling experience. The afternoon light was also so giving that I enjoyed photographing the usual birds and other critters in the area.
