UGANDA 63RD INDEPENDENCE DAY ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION, KIGALI

The High Commission of the Republic of Uganda in Kigali, Rwanda, organised a reception at the Kigali Serena Hotel on Thursday, October 9, 2025, to commemorate Uganda's 63rd Independence Day anniversary. The event was themed: "63 years of Independence: A Reason to Double our Efforts in Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation".

The anniversary celebration was graced by numerous dignitaries, members of the diplomatic community accredited to Rwanda, the Rwanda government officials, the Ugandan community residing in Rwanda, as well as professionals and friends of Uganda.

His Excellency Ambassador Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Robert Rusoke, Uganda's High Commissioner, along with the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Clementine Mukeka, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, raised a toast to the good health of His Excellency Paul Kagame and His Excellency Yoweri Museveni.

The 3rd Uganda-Rwanda Cross Border Security Meeting held in Mbarara - Uganda on 27th February, 2025 has been concluded with the signing of the Joint Communiqué and agreed munities. These meetings were one of the decisions of the 14th JPC between Uganda and Rwanda held in Kigali in April 2023

Uganda High Commission in Kigali marked the 62nd Anniversary of Uganda’s Independence on 9th October at the Kigali Convention Centre.

The event was attended by Senior officials from Rwanda Government, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, friends of Uganda and Rwandans.

AMASIKO Cultural group spiced up the occasion with performances depicting Uganda’s diverse culture.
In his remarks, H.E Amb. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Robert Rusoke highlighted the historic events of 9th October 1962 when the Uganda flag replaced the Union Jack, symbolizing the beginning of Independence.

He underlined the warm bilateral relations between Rwanda and Uganda, their historical perspective, natural reality, and common regional vision. He congratulated H.E President Paul Kagame on his resounding victory in the general elections. This was a sign of confidence the Rwanda people had in their Leader to continue steering them on a prosperous path.

The guest of Honour, Hon. Gen. Kabarebe James, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation congratulated Uganda on her 62nd Anniversary of Independence.
He applauded the good relations between the two countries and expressed Rwanda’s readiness to work for the continued cooperation with Uganda.
