What do our alumnae miss the most about Gashora? The SISTERHOOD! Sisterhood helps break down stereotypes and see each other as individuals with unique strengths and talents. Sisterhood also plays a significant role in academic and personal growth, empowering and inspiring us all.
Alumnae, we want to hear your unique stories of sisterhood. Please share them with us in the comments.

Today, April 7th, Rwanda marks the beginning of the 28th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. This month of April, the Flame of Remembrance ("Urumuri Rutazima” - the everlasting light) will be lit for the duration of 100 days. The Flame of Remembrance is a symbol of courage and resilience of Rwandans, and their indefatigable journey of peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation. We stand in remembrance with our Gashora students, families and staff who are playing a critical role in contributing to a bright, peaceful and prosperous future for all Rwandans.

Become a Catalyst - Rwanda Girls Initiative 11/10/2019

Today on International Day of the Girl, we are reminded of the importance of equality in girls' education. Ten years ago, Rwanda Girls Initiative co-founders Soozi McGill and Shal Foster, first started working in Rwanda fueled by the belief that educating girls is the most powerful tool to create systemic change. In 2011, the doors to opened, welcoming the pioneer class of 85 teenage girls from all across Rwanda. Tomorrow, we will celebrate our 7th graduation and bid farewell to 96 more girls who will join their 524 Gashora sisters already studying at 162 universities across 25 countries and who have earned $51 million in scholarships.
This is what it looks like when we believe in and invest in girls -- when we choose to amplify and empower their voices. Girls will rise up and
be the change in their communities, their country, and the world.
Will you join with us today and become a catalyst?

Our alumna and -CAN Bucknell Senior Assumpta Gasana and a fellow Rwandan Civil Engineering major, recently won three grants totaling $10,750 from Bucknell’s BizPitch Awards and the Davis Projects for Peace!

They were up against fierce competition in order to fund their project Sci-Touche: a program for school-aged Rwandan students to practice hands-on science experiments at the Kigali Public Library. Assumpta explains that, “most of our science education in Rwanda is theory-based instead of experiment-based like it is at Bucknell. We wanted to inspire others to pursue engineering as a career by showing them how they can apply science to real life.”

Rwandan students on boosting STEM-education through hands-on methods 26/08/2019

It is always a thrill to see our Gashora Girls Alumnae in the newspaper. Assumpta Gasana, A GGAST Alum, and Nancy Ingabire Abayo are civil engineering students and co-founders of Sci-Touche, an initiative that seeks to leverage science-related curriculums into more practical applications through scientific experiments in schools.
