In 2022, Department of Russian Language and Department of Pre-University training of Tomsk Polytechnic University celebrate their 3️⃣0️⃣ and 2️⃣0️⃣ years anniversary.

🎁For all those years, we have accumulated huge experience in teaching Russian to international students, training teachers, hosting research seminars, presentations and international clubs, etc. 

We are happy to present our art of teaching and deliver a series of lectures, demo lessons and master classes called “50 Shades of the Russian Language” to you.

🗓️We are sure that everyone will find something interesting and helpful among our events that will take place from March 14 to 25, 2022. 

💻👩‍🏫If you would like to take part in our events, you should follow the link at specified (Moscow) time and take an exciting journey to the world of the Russian language.  

The timetable includes not only the topic, time and the mode, but also the required level of Russian for international participants. Please, consider it when choosing an event.

The 8th of March - International Women's Day👧👩👵💐.

🌷This holiday was initiated by the German communists Clara Zetkin and Rosa Luxembourg. In 1910, at the International Socialist Women's Conference in Copenhagen, they proposed the creation of a holiday that would become a day for women's struggle for equality. At first, in different countries this holiday was celebrated on different days of March.
🌷On March 8, 1917, women workers at a textile factory in Petrograd went on strike.
Since 1921, in honor of this event, it was decided to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8. Gradually, in Russia, people began to congratulate not only the editorials of production, but also women of all professions, wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters on this day. Since 1966, the 8th of March is not only a holiday, but also an official day off in Russia.
🌷Nowadays, International Women's Day is celebrated in all countries that were part of the USSR, as well as in Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Zambia, Cambodia, Kenya, North Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea, Portugal, Italy, Germany and other countries.
🌷The official flower of the holiday is mimosa.
🌷In 1975, the UN General Assembly proclaimed March 8 as a day to celebrate the achievements of women in all areas of life. Every year, the UN announces a theme for the holiday. The theme of International Women's Day on 8 March 2022 is «Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow».

In this broadcast we will tell you how the 8th of March (International Women’s Day💐) is celebrated in Russia, what presents and flowers are traditionally given to women on this spring day. We will also talk about the history of this holiday and the meaning of its name.

Maslenitsa (Pancake) week🥞🥞🥞

Maslenitsa was celebrated for a week. Each day had its own theme and traditions.

1️⃣Monday –Welcoming day. People started baking pancakes, made the Lady Maslenitsa (a straw doll dressed in old female cloths), and rolled it through the streets on a sleigh, built snow hills and snow towns.

2️⃣Tuesday – Games. There were bride-shows, matchmakings on that day. Young people eat pancakes, took part in snow sledding and went for winter walks. After the Great Lent, people often had weddings.

3️⃣Wednesday – Dainties. Throughout the day people were supposed to eat as much as they could. Sons-in-law traditionally came to visit their mothers-in-law and eat pancakes.

4️⃣Thursday – Revelry Thursday. Storming snowy towns, sledding, feasting and fighting (to commemorate Russian military history) were common for that day.

5️⃣Friday – Mother-in-law evening. Traditionally, a day for mothers and especially mothers-in-law. Mothers-in-law were invited for a dinner party by their sons-in-law to eat pancakes baked by their daughters.

6️⃣Saturday – Sisters-in-law gatherings. On that day, young daughters-in-law invited their sisters-in-laws and other relatives of their husbands.

7️⃣Sunday – Shrove Sunday or Forgiveness Sunday. The last day before the Great Lent, the climax of festivities. On that day, people asked for forgiveness and the Lady Maslenitsa (a straw doll) was burned to ashes. Thus, the Slavs said goodbye to winter and welcomed the coming spring☀️.
