Founded in 1918. There are three orchestra: string, brass, or , orchestra of folk instruments.

In the school there are almost all sections: piano, stringed (violin, viola, cello, double bass), wind, folk instruments, harp, a theatrical studio.

In the past, this is the first in Russia children's music school, founded in 1918 on the initiative of V.I. Lenin for children of workers of the Putilov plant. Over the years of its existence it has become one of the leading art schools of the city. In the school there are almost all sections: piano, stringed (violin, viola, cello, double bass), wind, folk instruments, harp. There are three orchestra: string, brass, orchestra of folk instruments. There is a theatrical Department also.

The achievements of the school drew attention repeatedly happened in our city, the Great Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich. Visiting the school, visited on its 75-year jubilee, in March 1994, he consented to the assignment of the school in its own name.
