Happy Birthday St.Petersburg!

In May 1703 the Tsar Peter the 1st decided to build a fortress at the mouth of Neva river on Hare Island. The laying of the earth fortress according to the plan compiled by Peter the 1st took place on 27 .5.1703 in the presence of the tsar. This date is considered the birthday of St. Petersburg. By October 1703 a fortress, named St. Peter-Burkh (from Holland name Sankt-Peters Burch - St. Peter's fortress), was built by the soldiers. 29.6.1703 in the fortress the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was founded (hence the name of Peter and Paul Fortress was born), and the name St. Petersburg spread to the city, which began to take shape from the settlements inhabited by soldiers and peasants engaged in construction. May 27 2018 St. Petersburg celebrates 315 years! Celebrations in honor of the birthday of the northern capital began on May 20, but the most significant events are held this weekend, May 26-27. Happy Birthday St.Petersburg!
