The Centre for German and European Studies (St Petersburg University - Bielefeld University) invites all interested network analysts to submit proposals to organize sessions, workshops, and round tables at the Fifth Biannual International Conference ‘Networks in the Global World’, the largest regular conference on network analysis in Russia and Eastern Europe, held with support from International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA), International Sociological Association (ISA), and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at St Petersburg University on July 7-9, 2020.

The main theme of the fifth NetGloW is ‘Structures in Contexts. Understanding Relations in European Societies and beyond’. For details on the theme, see conference webpage: http://ngw.spbu.ru/about

The keynote speakers in 2020 will be David Krackhardt, Carnegie Mellon University, John Padgett, University of Chicago, and Nick Crossley, University of Manchester.

We welcome proposals from any area of network analysis and encourage submissions from various disciplines.

Abstracts of sessions, workshops and round tables of up to one page are to be sent to [email protected] by November 1, 2019. Notifications of acceptance/rejection will be sent out to the applicants not later than November 11, 2019.

3rd St. Petersburg Summer School on Network Analysis
Deadline: March 1, 2019


The Centre for German and European Studies, St. Petersburg State University — Bielefeld University invites BA, MA, PhD students, early-career social scientists and cultural scholars to take part in the 3rd St. Petersburg Summer School on Network Analysis.

The School will take place on July 8-13, 2019 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Hands-on workshops will be provided by experienced researchers from Manchester and Liverpool Universities. Cultural programme in St. Petersburg is included.

Participants will get acquainted with the core concepts and methods of network analysis, learn about the cutting-edge developments in the field, train to collect and process network data with the specialized software, and discuss their own projects.

Prior knowledge of network analysis is not mandatory, but a good command of English is necessary.

Applications in English, including a CV, a motivation letter, and a short description of own research project should be sent to [email protected] by the 1st of March, 2019.

The German-Russian Exchange (St. Petersburg) and the Centre for German and European studies (Saint Petersburg State University - Bielefeld University) in the framework of Fall meetings 2018 invite to the lecture by Dr. Ingmar G. Weber, the research director of the Social Computing Group at Qatar Computing Research Institute on “What Online Advertising Data Reveals about People in Europe and Beyond?”. The lecture will take place on 27th of September at 19:00, at Ligovsky pr. 87, 3rd floor.

Центр изучения Германии и Европы приглашает принять участие в Международной молодёжной осенней академии “Управление конфликтами в европейских кризисах: права человека, миграция и верховенство закона”.

Заявки принимаются до 30 сентября 2018 г.

Академия пройдет 4 – 11 ноября 2018 года в г. Отценхаузен (Германия).

Участники семинара будут отобраны на конкурсной основе среди студентов магистратуры, аспирантов и молодых учёных из университетов Санкт-Петербурга, чьи научные интересы и исследовательская деятельность связаны с тематикой мероприятия.

Участники академии получат возможность обсудить состояние прав человека и миграционные процессы в современной Европе вместе со студентами из США и Испании. Программа включает в себя посещение Страсбурга, Люксембурга и Трира.

Хорошее знание английского языка обязательно.

Fifth Research Papers Competition for Junior Scientists who work on comparative Russian-European studies.
Prize: Grant of up to 1275 EUR for a research trip to Russia.
Deadline: September 1, 2018.

The organizers, Centre for German and European Studies (St. Petersburg State University—Bielefeld University), supported by DAAD, and Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Sociology, St. Petersburg State University invite papers by Europe-based MA and Ph.D. students in social sciences or humanities, working on issues topical for Russia or comparing Russian and European cases.

The final will take place in November 2018, in St. Petersburg, the most beautiful and European city of Russia.

All the finalists will be invited to take part in a seminar on paper preparation and publication in international scientific journals.
