The first ever English song from a non-English speaking country won in 1974. Back in those days there was no so-called language rule - participants could sing in any language they preferred, just like it is nowadays.
In 1974 six countries had their songs in English - Finland, United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands and Ireland. The one that went victorious at that contest was Sweden. The country was represented by the song “Waterloo” performed by ABBA 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪 The tune was so catchy, that everybody in the whole world started listening to it, and the band received huge international success that lasted up until 1982 when the group split up.
In 2005, when Eurovision had its 50th edition, a special voting took place, where people could choose the best ever song that took part in the contest... And guess what? “Waterloo” was crowned as the winner of this voting! And it still remains a huge hit among Eurofans 😉😉😉 What do you think of the song?
