🚀On April 12, 1961, Vostok-1 spacecraft was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. On board was Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who became the first human to orbit planet Earth. The flight in near-Earth space lasted almost 2 hours. (108 minutes)
👩🚀In the Soviet Union, the holiday was declared by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on April 9, 1962.
World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day is also celebrated on this day.
