Many people ask me - what is baby signing?

Baby signing is a technique using a system of symbolic gestures to represent key words - it is not a replacement to speech, as some may think, rather it supports spoken language development and aids in communication before children can speak. At Baby College, we use signs from Makaton.

Baby signing has many benefits, such as:

⭐️ It can enable children as young as 6 months to use gestures to communicate their basic needs
⭐️ It gives parents more insight into what their babies are thinking
⭐️ It can provide a boost to your child’s confidence in their ability to be understood
⭐️ It’s fun ‼️

At Baby College we recognise that Tummy time is good for your baby’s all around neurological and physical development, we practice it every week during our Infant classes.

Tummy Time:
👶 Helps strengthen and develop your baby's muscles
👶 Enhances visual development
👶 Encourages integration of the left and right brain and helps develop bilateral movement that leads to crawling

Some tips to remember for Tummy Time:
❣️ Wait until your baby is calm and relaxed, don't have tummy time if they are tired, hungry or have just been fed
❣️ Get down on the floor with your baby - make eye contact and join in to encourage them
❣️ Provide something interesting fo them to look at each time - mirrors, rattles or bells are great!
❣️ If it upsets your baby, start with shorter periods on their tummy and try to gradually extend it each day
