Russian State Geological Prospecting University, Moscow Russian State Geological Prospecting University It was founded as Moscow Mining Academy in 1918. In 1932 it was named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze.

Russian State Geological Prospecting University is the leading geological engineering institution of higher education in the Russia. It was known under name of Sergo Ordzhonikidze Moscow State Geological Prospecting Institute (MGRI) most of the last century in the USSR. In 1930 the Institute merged as a successor to the geological prospecting department of the Moscow Mining Academy and the soil geology division of the physico-mathematical department of Moscow State University. In 1963 the geological prospecting department of the Moscow Nonferrous Metals and Gold Institute was made part of the institute. In 2005 it was renamed to its current name (above). For almost century long history, 30K sudents were graduated, including 400 doctors in science, and 1300 students from 78 foreign countries. In 2011 it was rated #1 in Moscow by students and alumni on list of 100 best universities, and #2 in Russia!
