Today marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of the Russian writer Konstantin Fedin (1892 - 1977). 📚 He is an author of the novels "Cities and Years" and "Brothers" which depict social life at the time of the October Revolution and the Civil War. Both of the novels were translated into German, Spanish, French and other languages.
🖊 K. Fedin also wrote the book "Gorky among us" describing an impact that the writer Maxim Gorky made on the other authors.

Сегодня исполняется 130 лет со дня рождения русского писателя Константина Федина (1892-1977). 📚 Он является автором романов "Города и годы" и "Братья", в которых отразил общественную жизнь в годы Октябрьской революции и Гражданской войны. Оба произведения были переведены на немецкий, испанский, французский и другие языки.
🖊 К. Федин также написал книгу "Горький среди нас", рассказывающую о влиянии, которое Максим Горький оказал на других литераторов.

💐 February 23 marks Defender of the Fatherland Day in Russia. The holiday was founded in 1919 to mark the establishment of the Soviet Red Army. In 1993 it was renamed Defender of the Fatherland Day, and was declared a day-off since 2002.

⭐️ Initially, the holiday celebrated servicemen or servicewomen, but nowadays it is informally known as Men's Day, when women give small gifts to their male friends and relatives.

🤝 Belarus, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and South Ossetia celebrate February 23 as well.

💐 23 февраля в России отмечается День защитника Отечества. Праздник был учрежден в 1919 году в честь основания Красной Армии. В 1993 году он был переименован в День защитника Отечества, а с 2002 года объявлен нерабочим днем.

⭐️ Изначально праздник отмечали военнослужащие, но в наше время этот день неофициально считается праздником мужчин, и женщины поздравляют своих друзей и родственников мужского пола.

🤝 23 февраля также отмечается в Беларуси, Таджикистане, Киргизии и Южной Осетии.

The annual winter festival "Igloo 2022 Eskimo Town" took place in Novosibirsk. Watch a wonderful igloo city here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vld2wyLFvA

This year, over 106 teams took part in the event, creating a city on the banks of the Ob River. The winners were announced in eight categories, such as the most beautiful igloo, the most correct igloo, the highest igloo and others. ❄️ An igloo is an Eskimo house built of snow or ice blocks. Despite it is made of snow and ice, it can keep warm for a long time.

В этом году в мероприятии приняли участие более 106 команд, построивших целый город на берегу реки Обь. Победители были объявлены в восьми категориях, таких как самое красивое, самое правильное, самое высокое иглу и другие. ❄️ Иглу - это эскимосский дом, построенный из ледяных глыб.

Russian language is known for its combinations of consonants: we have a lot of words where you can see the combination of three or four consonants at once. 🤭 However, sometimes we don't pronounce them all. For instance, if there is a combination of "стн" in a word, then the middle "т" is usually not pronounced, and we only say [сн]. 👨‍🏫 Remember the rule and read the examples in the image - see the correct pronunciation in square brackets.

❄️ The new semester of the RLUS programme (Russian Language Undergraduate Studies) has already started, and we would like to remember the "Russian Tea" that took place in December. By tradition, students of the RLUS programme performed poems, songs and quizzes to mark the end of the first semester.

Today, we suggest that you learn three new words about food: фасоль (beans), горох (peas) and кукуруза (corn).

🥗 Peas have long been used in Russian cuisine as a part of soups, side dishes and salads. For example, we add peas in traditional New Year's salad Olivier (also called Russian salad). Canned beans and corn are also popular ingredients of various dishes.
The correct pronunciation is in the square brackets.

This semester, we have 3 groups with A1-B1 levels.

✏️ The programme includes 5 courses:
"Speaking practice" - 2 classes per week,
"Russian Grammar" - 2 classes per week,
"English to Russian Translation" - 2 classes per week,
"Writing an essay" - 2 classes per week
"Reading. Vocabulary. Pronunciation" - 1 class per week.
You can join the full programme or choose any subject that you find most helpful (for example, "Russian Grammar").

❗️ Every class lasts 90 min.
The classes proceed Monday to Thursday.
Groups of 5-7 people.

How many alternatives to the word "грустный" do you know? We suggest that you learn three new words:
🔹 печальный (sad, sorrowful),
🔸 унылый (dejected, depressing),
🔹 безрадостный (cheerless, joyless).
🍂 All of the words may refer to different things: печальная история, унылое лицо, безрадостный пейзаж. Read our examples and try to make up your phrases.
