Archaeologists will study the necropolis of the XVIII-XX century in the Kirov region
The Research-Archaeological Laboratory of Vyatka State University in April plans to start studying the necropolis of the XVIII - the first half of the XX century of the Slobodsky Kirov region. The study that will be the first experience of a comprehensive study of necropolis in the region will be held under the Priority-2030 program, RIA Novosti reported in the press service of the university
Pre-revolutionary Russian necropolis, according to experts, is a conglomerate of unknown elements that can be lost in several decades. Information about the buried people will disappear, unique samples of mednolothy plastics and stone thread will disappear.
The preservation of necropolis and information about them in the cultural space of Russia is the most important task for scientists, since in the funeral practice, some features and features of the city Russian population are laid, the head of the research archaeological laboratory VyatSU Alexei Kaisin noted.
"There are a lot of cemeteries of the national period, and if they all fail to become museums, then they need to at least turn into memorial complexes. This will require techniques that are not in the pure form excavation. If it is not possible to create such a complex, then it is important to create a digital double of each object included in the necropolia system - to preserve historical memory and our cultural identity." - He told.
In his opinion, it is important to raise the topic of registration of the memorial complex as an object of cultural heritage, as well as to develop a procedure for filling out the documentation for the object (object passport).
The team of the archaeological laboratory is going to form and test the technique of field fixation of the tombstones. For each object, coordinates using the GNSS receiver will be determined. Based on these data, a review scheme of necropolis and adjacent territory will be constructed. Then scientists will photoscan the crosses using a large-scale rail and a special white matte screen from geotextiles, which will help simplify the process of further image processing.
After that, archaeologists measure the height, thickness, the width of the cross, the dimensions of each of the crossbar, as well as the cross section of a wrought rod. They will create descriptions of crosses, where they will indicate their origin, purpose, preservation, ornament and additional decorative parts, the position of the cross is in its place or moved.
Then, scientists will fill out the blanks of tombstones prepared by the teacher of the Russian Orthodox University of St. Johann Bogoslov, Denis Pezhemsky, and the method of photogrammetry will create their three-dimensional digital twins.
According to Alexei Kaisin, it is important for researchers to check the possibility of placing the necropolia under protection as cultural heritage sites (attractions). It is also necessary to try by visualization and 3D-simulation to maintain the end of the XVIII - early XX centuries. For descendants. Another task is to draw up various burial cards, types of monuments and the definition of their artistic, philological and historical significance.
According to scientists, this work will help to introduce a large reservoir of the material for research related to the funeral Orthodox ritual and the rite itself, with cemetery structures and architectural details. Also, the archaeological study of cemeteries will help make decisions on the possible development of the territory.
