Back to the roots of transferring meaning: practical lexicography under the microscope

În data de 20 mai 2026, studenții anului I, specializarea Traducere și Interpretare, Facultatea de Științe ale Comunicării, au participat la seminarul "Back to the roots of transferring meaning: practical lexicography under the microscope", organizat de asist. univ. dr. Cristina Miuțescu la Biblioteca Centrală a Universității Politehnica Timișoara. În cadrul acestuia, studenții au analizat texte sursă și au produs texte țintă aparținând atât sferei generale (LGP), cât și celei specializate (LSP), folosind diverse instrumente lexicografice în funcție de etapa aferentă procesului de traducere cât și de scopul traducerii. Tipologiile vizate au inclus dicționare monolingve explicative (aplicabile limbilor A și B), de sinonime și antonime, de colocații, expresii idiomatice, bilingve generale și specializate (A-B; B-A).

Today, our students from the BA program in Translation and Interpreting successfully concluded the 10th edition of the scientific seminar “Technical Translation: Problems and Solutions” — an event that once again demonstrated why technical translation is an essential, safety critical, and rapidly evolving field.

Across user manuals, product descriptions, technical reports, and reference guides, students engaged with real world documentation and tackled authentic translation challenges. Each presentation highlighted concrete linguistic, terminological, and conceptual problems — and, more importantly, well reasoned, practical solutions.

Their analyses showed a strong understanding of how clarity, accuracy, and usability shape technical communication. The solutions proposed — from terminology harmonisation to restructuring for readability and adapting culture specific elements — reflect the professional mindset required in today’s translation industry.

We warmly congratulate all participating students for their excellent work, their teamwork, and their commitment to high quality translation practice. Events like this strengthen our academic community and prepare future translators for the complex demands of the field.

Studenții sunt invitați să participe la vizita virtuală organizată de Direcția Generală Traduceri a Comisiei Europene, un eveniment dedicat descoperirii oportunităților de carieră în domeniul traducerii și al comunicării multilingve.

Evenimentul oferă ocazia de a afla direct de la specialiști cm funcționează activitatea de traducere în instituțiile europene, ce competențe sunt căutate și ce perspective profesionale există pentru tinerii interesați de acest domeniu.
