American Corner Târgu Mureș

🇺🇸 Made with My Precious Hands/Făcut cu mâinile mele, is a STEAM program that aims to encourage people to create art and handmade items, while also being a way to create a bridge between generations and cultures. In this program we focus on needles and threads, the resulting objects being crocheted, sewn or knitted. To learn and try artistic crafts from the USA, we will use as inspiration models created by Amerindian populations and other contemporary art and craft ideas from the books in the American Corner Târgu Mureș collection. For these meetings we have a partnership with Melidas Association, who help us with advice, craft techniques and with some materials that we can use in the craft.
We shared ideas and we start working on something: crocheted, knitted, sewed tapestry, earrings, brooches, keychains, bookmarks, tea cup holder, blankets, socks, sweaters and other handmade decorative objects!
🇷🇴 Made with My Precious Hands/Făcut cu mâinile mele, este un program STEAM care își propune să încurajeze oamenii să creeze artă și obiecte lucrate manual, fiind totodată o modalitate de a crea o punte între generații și culturi. În acest program ne axăm pe ace și ațe, obiectele rezultate fiind croșetate, cusute sau tricotate. Pentru a învăța și a încerca meșteșuguri artistice din SUA, vom folosi ca inspirație modele create de populațiile amerindiene și alte idei de artă și meșteșuguri contemporane din cărțile aflate în colecția American Corner Târgu Mureș. Pentru aceste întâlniri avem un parteneriat cu Asociația Melidas, care ne ajută cu sfaturi, tehnici de lucru și cu câteva materiale pe care le putem folosi pentru a crea obiecte practice sau decorative.
Am împărtășit idei și am început să lucrăm la ceva: Gobelin, obiecte croșetate, tricotate sau cusute, cercei, broșe, brelocuri, semne de carte, pături, șosete, plovere și alte obiecte decorative realizate manual!

A rare engraved copy of the United States Declaration of Independence — considered unique in Romania — is now on display at the Teleki-Bolyai Library in Târgu Mureș.

Today's themes were ”In the City” and ”Architecture/Buildings”, with ... practical exercises! Being a beautiful May day, we decided to go outdoors for this lesson, choosing the Târgu Mureș Medieval Citadel for this meeting.
We learned many new words, a vast vocabulary in English leading to effective communication with native speakers of American English!
